Hoang Yen Chibi happily said that in 14 years in showbiz, she worked hard to give her mother and younger brother a comfortable life both physically and mentally.
On July 1, Hoang Yen Chibi released live performance versions of songs from Debut EP - Browse. She introduced the project in May and received positive feedback from the audience. On this occasion, the singer talked about her career and personal life.
- Your feelings when releasing EP first time after many years of practice?
- After performing for my friends, colleagues, and the media, I cried backstage because of joy. I have never shown such pride in myself in public. I spent four years working on a meaningful project.
I entered showbiz through music, but people remember me more for my acting. Looking back on my singing career, what makes me happy is that I didn't give up despite failures and doubts about my own abilities.
Compared to my contemporaries, in terms of song coverage, I am not as good. However, each person will have a different fate with this profession. I do not have a song that people often compare to a "national hit", but that does not make me too sad. I take every project I release seriously and invest in it out of respect for the audience.
- What have you changed so far?
- Compared to when I first started my career, I am no longer naive in both appearance and musical style. Before, I performed songs with a pure spirit, but after experiencing difficulties, I sing with more depth and emotion. At the same time, I studied vocal music and practiced choreography because I wanted to show the audience that I have matured.
For many years, I have collaborated with musician Khac Hung, aiming for modernity and closeness to the youth. I am interested because I see that everything that is present is the personality that Hoang Yen Chibi has been searching for all this time. The audience has supporters and critics, but I accept it comfortably.
My passion and "craziness" in the profession increased day by day. I used to sell my house to get money to make products, and now I still do that, if I don't have enough I will borrow money. In the new project, I first learned choreography with an intensity of eight hours a day, forgetting to eat. At the end of the project, I only weighed 39 kg, which made my family panic. However, I encouraged everyone: "Yen is still very strong, she cannot give up yet".
- What is your current goal in music?
- Before, I was easily upset by criticisms like "singing forever without change", "sour voice". I also focused on the song having to reach millions of views, being on the trending list. Now I've learned to enjoy more when standing on stage, pursuing the music I love. I stay calm and optimistic in everything.
In addition, I aim for more peace, putting my family first. Over the years, I have strived, worked hard on shows, and was willing to endure hardships because I wanted my mother and younger brother to have the best life. Up to now, I am happy because I have partly achieved my wishes. I am not too rich, but I am proud that I have fulfilled part of my wishes such as buying a house, a car, and taking my relatives on vacation every year.
- In the past two years, why did you decide to work independently, without needing your mother to be your manager like before?
- I proactively work with the new manager and team so that my mother can have time to rest. I don't want my mother to stay up all night, take care of my daughter like before or have a headache with numbers and month-end settlement. The career I have achieved so far is largely thanks to my mother.
My mother is not one to sit still, so I opened a restaurant near home for her to run, cooking Hanoi dishes according to her specialty. One time, my mother woke up early to prepare for the restaurant, slipped and broke her arm, got burned but hid it from me. When I found out, I went to the hospital, cried like a child, sat in the hallway for more than five hours waiting for the doctor to operate on my mother. I felt heavy-hearted because in my 28 years of life, I had not taken much care of my mother, now I had to see her on the hospital bed. After the incident, I did not forbid my mother to continue doing business, but the contract had to be reduced. At the same time, I realized that I had to balance everything to be with my family more.
- What are your concerns at the age of 29?
- Recently, my younger brother got married. Seeing his maturity and maturity, I am happy and reassured. As for me, love is good but not yet to talk about marriage. I used to say I would get married at 30, but maybe this "deadline" will be later because I still want to spend time developing my career. I am happy that my companion trusts and supports me.

Role of Hieu Phuong in the movie May the year be glorious helped her win the Best Actress award at the 2018 Golden Kite Awards and Best Actress at the 2019 Vietnam Film Festival. She was also nominated for Best Actress in a Movie for the film Seven spiritual mountains at the Green Star Awards 2019. Regarding music, she has released many projects, notably Naive, No boyfriend, Wounded petals, Secret love, all attracted tens of millions of views on YouTube.
