At the largest flower market in Ho Chi Minh City on Ho Thi Ky Street (District 10), about 1-2 days before the God of Wealth's day, gerbera daisies "take over" the shops. Of which, red and yellow flowers are imported in large quantities by small traders, with some places selling more than 1,000 flowers a day. According to folklore, worshiping the God of Wealth helps bring prosperity to the family, especially in business and trading activities. A survey of customers at Ho Thi Ky flower market showed that "putting gerbera daisies on the God of Wealth's day will bring money", which means hoping for a lucky and prosperous year in business.
Price skyrocketed still happy to buy
On the morning of February 6, the 9th day of the first lunar month, at wholesale and retail flower shops in Ho Thi Ky market, traders were busy preparing gerbera daisies to sell to customers. Colorful baskets of gerbera daisies were placed in front, and customers came one after another to ask to buy them to put in the altar of the God of Wealth tomorrow.

Ms. Thanh (59 years old, living in District 10) was at the market early in the morning. After walking around the crowded Ho Thi Ky flower market, she bought a bouquet of 20 red gerbera daisies at a wholesale shop for 150,000 VND.
"I bought flowers in advance to prepare for the God of Wealth's day tomorrow. This year, gerbera daisies are a bit expensive, so I bought 20 for only 70,000 VND for Tet," she said. Although it was twice as expensive, Ms. Thanh said that the important thing was that she was satisfied. She was still happy because gerbera daisies were suitable for the God of Wealth's day, hoping for a prosperous new year.
Also choosing flowers early in the morning, Ms. Hanh (in District 10) said she liked to choose a bouquet of colorful gerbera daisies to worship the God of Wealth. "I do business and always want to have money, so I like to arrange gerbera daisies to have a lot of money and fortune all year round," Ms. Hanh said, then decided to buy a bouquet of 10 colorful flowers with lucky leaves for 120,000 VND.
Focus on selling gerbera daisies
Mr. Tran Ngoc Tien (Thanh Dat fresh flower shop) at Ho Thi Ky market exclaimed: "The price of gerbera daisies on the occasion of God of Wealth Day this year has increased dramatically. Normally, the price is only 30,000-40,000 VND/bunch of 20 flowers. Today, I bought wholesale the beautiful red flowers for up to 250,000 VND/bunch, and from 180,000-200,000 VND for other colors."

This morning, Mr. Tien also made 5 pots of gerbera daisies for customers ordering for the grand opening, with a total of 600 gerbera daisies. Adding the retail flowers, he said that on February 6, he sold more than 1,000 gerbera daisies.
Also due to the high demand, on the occasion of God of Wealth Day, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hoa (64 years old) buys wholesale gerbera daisies to retail to serve customers who buy them for worship. For more than 10 years now, Hoa has only sold flowers for events and online on weekdays.
Ms. Hoa said that this year, gerbera daisies are more expensive than every year. The price she bought wholesale on January 9 was from 200,000 to 220,000 VND/bunch of 20 plants. Red and yellow flowers are more expensive than other colors. People believe that these two colors symbolize luck and fortune. "At the beginning of the year, in addition to worshiping the God of Wealth, large businesses also buy gerbera daisies to worship or display on opening day because they believe that this flower will help the homeowner prosper in the new year, which is also the reason why the price of flowers is more expensive," she added.
When buying wholesale flowers, Ms. Hoa uses a long toothpick to insert into each flower stem and then uses tape to secure the flower branches to keep them strong and sturdy. The stems of the daisies are hollow and weak, so the water needs to be changed regularly or flower nutrient solution mixed into the water to keep them fresh for a long time.
In addition, she also bundles 5 colorful gerberas with lucky leaves, selling for 70,000 VND/bundle. Depending on the size and color, she also retails for 15,0000-20,000 VND/flower.

Not far from Ms. Hoa's place, Ms. Quyen's shop (39 years old) is also full of red and yellow gerbera daisies. She said that in addition to major holidays such as International Women's Day, Valentine's Day..., the God of Wealth's day is also more crowded, so she takes advantage of importing gerbera daisies to sell more. Ms. Quyen's shop mainly sells retail, priced at 15,000 VND/flower.
In addition to gerbera daisies, on the occasion of God of Wealth Day this year, people also choose to buy red flowers such as gladiolus, priced at about 50,000 VND/bunch, or sunflowers, priced at 80,000 VND/bunch.
