Realizing that raising 3B cattle has many advantages, especially being easy to raise, less diseased, more economically efficient than some other livestock, and being favored by the market..., recently, with the support of the State, some households in Trieu Phong district have invested in building standard barns to raise this type of cattle, and the model has initially brought positive results.

The comprehensive economic farm of Ms. Truong Thi Hang's family in Thuong Phuoc village, Trieu Thuong commune has more than 3 hectares. In the past 5 years, her family has invested in a closed-loop farm to raise about 450 pigs/batch, 3 batches per year, grow organic oranges and some fruit trees such as bananas, papayas...
In addition, she raises chickens and ducks for meat with a total herd of more than 500 birds/batch, and raises fish with a lake surface area of nearly 5,000m2. On average, each year, after deducting expenses, this model makes a profit of about 200 million VND. However, in 2023, pigs were affected by many diseases, so she temporarily stopped raising them.
After surveying the needs and realizing that the farm's conditions met the requirements of the program to support the development and implementation of an intensive beef cattle farming model, earlier this year, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center selected Ms. Hang's family farm to support the development of the 3B cattle farming model.
To implement the model, she spent 1.3 hectares growing grass and corn as feed for cows; invested 250 million VND to build a standard, isolated barn; bought 10 3B cows for nearly 250 million VND to raise. The model was implemented in 10 months, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center committed to supporting the cow feed model (about 55 million VND), licking stones, and packaging for fermenting cow feed.
After nearly 2 months of raising, her herd of cows has developed well, and being kept in captivity does not require much care. During the raising process, she was supported by the commune's agricultural extension officers with techniques for raising, growing grass and corn biomass for food, caring for and preventing diseases for the herd. She composted cow manure to implement a circular agricultural model, and used it to fertilize crops.
Ms. Hang shared: “I am very happy to receive support from the State to raise 3B cows. After a short time of raising them, I found that 3B cows are easier to care for and raise than pigs. The cows are omnivorous and grow well. If this model develops favorably, I will convert part of the pig farming to investing in expanding the cow farming.”
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, an agricultural extension officer of Trieu Thuong commune, said: “In recent years, many farm and family farm models have been developed in the commune, including the comprehensive economic farm of Ms. Hang’s family. Based on the conditions that meet the program’s requirements, her family was supported to build a 3B cow raising model.
This is a new type of livestock in the locality. After a short period of implementation, the cows initially grew well. We expect this model to bring economic efficiency to the breeders; it is a model for people to learn and follow to increase their income.
To effectively promote the cattle herd improvement program implemented in the province, from 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center will build and deploy an intensive beef cattle farming model in localities. The cattle breed used for farming is mainly 3B cattle. The criteria for selecting households for support must have enough potential to respond to the model including 10 3B bulls, building standard barns, land for growing grass and corn to raise cattle (about 0.5 ha).
In Trieu Phong district, in 2023, the center supported Mr. Nguyen Van Tung's family in Linh An village, Trieu Trach commune to build this model. The requirement for cows to grow is to ensure an average of 1kg/head per day, and at least 30kg/head per month. After 10 months of raising and selling, each cow weighs an average of 600-800 kg, minus costs, the net profit is about 100 million VND/10 cows, a profit much higher than other types of livestock.
Taking advantage of the cow manure, in addition to composting it for crops, Mr. Tung's family also sells it to people in need. From the initial success, this year Mr. Tung's family continues to invest in implementing the model. On that basis, in early 2024, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center continues to support the construction of the 3B cow farming model in Trieu Thuong commune.
For the 3B cow breed introduced into the intensive meat farming model, it is very easy to raise, has a fast growth rate, low risk of disease, suitable for the conditions of farmers in Trieu Phong district. This model brings economic and social efficiency, protects the environment and is suitable in the current climate change adaptation conditions.
Head of the Trieu Phong District Agricultural Extension Station, Hoang Thi Thuy Trang, said: “In the coming time, the station will continue to survey the needs and propose to the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to support qualified households to build a 3B cattle raising model. However, to implement the model, the initial investment capital required by households is quite high. Therefore, the station recommends that all levels and sectors pay attention to policies to support low-interest loans, creating conditions for livestock farmers to participate in implementing and replicating the model.”
