TPO - The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Tran Van Thoi district (Ca Mau) said that due to the impact of the dry season and drought, subsidence and landslides have occurred in many places in the area. Preliminary estimates so far show that property and infrastructure damage is over 9 billion VND.
Tran Van Thoi District (Ca Mau) is divided into 3 production areas: Northern Ca Mau area produces according to the freshwater ecosystem of about 53,000 hectares, Southern Ca Mau area shifts towards growing one rice crop on shrimp farming land, specializing in shrimp of about 17,000 hectares and the marine economic zone. |
In recent years, climate change has led to drought, water shortage, saltwater intrusion, landslides, and subsidence, affecting people's transportation and production works. |
As of February 19, in 9 communes and towns in the freshwater area of Tran Van Thoi district, there were 242 landslides and subsidence locations, with a total length of more than 7.3km, estimated damage of more than 9 billion VND. |
Accordingly, the localities with the most subsidence and landslides are the communes of Khanh Hai with 105 locations; Tran Hoi and Khanh Binh both have 23 locations... |
The dry season is forecast to last longer, most of the canals in the freshwater area of Tran Van Thoi district have completely dried up, subsidence and landslides are continuing to occur with increasing scale and frequency. |
A leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tran Van Thoi district said that there are currently over 80 dry canals in the area, leading to subsidence and landslides on many traffic routes. The number of landslides and subsidence is increasing every day. |

To reduce the risk of landslides on the West Sea dike during the dry season, the dike management unit is reducing the permitted vehicle weight on this dike from 8 tons to 5 tons. |
