Hundreds of international students from 65 universities and colleges will compete in the Vietnamese Speaking Contest - the first to be held nationwide.
The Vietnamese Speaking Contest for foreign students, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, opened on the morning of October 28 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc said that the contest promises to bring profound speeches in the context of global cultural exchange. According to him, the contest contributes to promoting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, creating motivation for the innovation process and improving the quality of training in general and the quality of Vietnamese language training in particular.
"I believe that each performance is a unique creation, leaving an impression not only on international students but also on all audiences, Vietnamese people, to see the country through multidimensional lenses, to love and understand our country more," he said.

The preliminary round took place over three days: October 28, November 3, and November 10, corresponding to the three competition clusters of the North, Central, and South with 65 teams. The organizing committee said the competition was launched in August, attracting hundreds of international students from 65 universities and colleges in 29 provinces and cities.
This is the first time the Ministry of Education and Training has organized a speech contest for international students nationwide. In previous years, the contest was limited to Lao students.
Regarding the rules, each team will choose 2-3 contestants to speak in Vietnamese, with a maximum presentation time of 7 minutes. This year, with the theme "Vietnam in Me", contestants can share their understanding of the country, people and culture of Vietnam; about the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and their homeland.
The 12 best teams from the three clusters will compete in the finals on December 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. The Ministry of Education and Training will award one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes and six consolation prizes. The specific prize levels have not been announced.
According to the Ministry's statistics, there are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam. Previously, in the period 2016-2022, Vietnam received and trained more than 45,000 international students from 102 countries and territories. On average, each year, 4,000-6,000 international students come to Vietnam, most of them studying Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies.
