The two brothers respectively received full scholarships from prestigious universities.
Le Manh Linh is one of the few Vietnamese students admitted to three prestigious Ivy League schools (USA) at the same time in 2018.
He studied for a dual degree in Chemical Engineering and International Relations at Yale University on a full scholarship. The school not only provided financial support but also helped him make good friends.
After graduating from Yale, Manh Linh decided to challenge himself in a new environment. He chose Harvard University to continue his PhD research in the field of Applied Physics.
This young man feels excited to have the opportunity to study in an environment where majors are linked together, contributing to the comprehensive development of students.
His younger sister Le Tue Chi, a former 12A2 student at the Foreign Language High School, Hanoi National University, recently won a full scholarship to Harvard University.
It is known that life and the familiar people around her are the topics that this female student with a passion for art used in her essay to conquer the school's Admissions Board.
When receiving the good news from his sister's Harvard University, Manh Linh felt very excited because Tue Chi had achieved the desired results. He said: "The two of us went through a very long process, with ups and downs, to submit the application that we both felt satisfied with and then got accepted.
Only after I started studying did I realize what a comprehensive application was. And in fact, applying to study in the US was not that difficult, but it was also very laborious.
Many people think that high grades are good, but I tried my best to help my sister have a high school experience and the application process didn't feel overwhelming. This is a lesson I had to learn a long time ago."
With personal experiences of living far from home, Manh Linh hopes that every student, including his sister, when deciding to study abroad, needs to really know and understand the reasons why they choose that country, that school, that major, and that major.
And to prevent yourself from realizing that you are not suited for studying abroad, young people should not romanticize studying abroad but need to determine their motivation in advance.
In addition, Manh Linh also advises everyone to have an open mind, dare to challenge, dare to take risks. He said: "I think that people in my country who go to the US often prioritize STEM majors for visa reasons. However, in my opinion, everyone should try to learn other languages, take classes in other fields, especially humanities or painting.
Because in reality, studying will give you a certain understanding, but when you actually work, you will have different experiences. And when you possess knowledge about society or culture, you will have a rich personal life and bring purpose to what we do every day."
Effort and study together at Harvard University, USA
Notably, the fact that his sister will study at Harvard University in the near future has also greatly influenced Manh Linh's decision to pursue a PhD there. Tue Chi emotionally confided: "I feel very happy for him. Because in the end, he has conquered this school after so much effort. With my brother's companionship, it will be easier for me to get used to the new environment."
Besides, after receiving encouraging results for her efforts, Tue Chi could not hide her happiness. She said that she is in the process of preparing the necessary documents and procedures so that her first trip abroad will be smooth.
The female student also created a list of things to do with her family and friends before leaving Vietnam. This was both a way for her to create new memories with her loved ones and a way to say goodbye to them before her upcoming study abroad journey.
To have a fulfilling time at the school of his dreams, Harvard's new students researched and consulted courses of students who are currently studying at the school.
In addition, Tue Chi began to learn more about the requirements of the subjects and classes that she was interested in. Some of the classes that Chi mentioned were training classes on art and film, engineering, and even sociology.
Furthermore, with her inherent dynamism and enthusiasm, Chi also expressed her excitement in trying to learn and research about the outstanding Clubs and extracurricular activities at this prestigious school.
As for Manh Linh, after looking back at what he can do, contribute and develop, he wants to research more deeply into scientific inventions and innovations. He seeks what science can bring to the development of the community and help create a greener, cleaner future, especially for his homeland Vietnam.
Therefore, Manh Linh's upcoming research will also focus on electrochemistry. He wants to use electrochemistry to replace compound production processes that occur at high temperatures or pressures and are very energy-consuming.
He hopes that his work can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions or energy consumption, contributing to protecting the human living environment.
This is also the sixth year that Manh Linh has studied and worked in the US. Although he has been exposed to many cultures around the world, he has always maintained a strong sense of his roots and national culture. He is proud to be born into a traditional family, always having close ties with his brothers and relatives and preserving many beautiful values through many generations.
In particular, Manh Linh confidently asserted that he is "very Vietnamese". "I call my parents once a day, especially when they are with my grandparents. Or during Tet, I try to buy ham, invite Vietnamese friends to gather for a feast. I even avoid the same things as I do on the first day of the new year in my hometown," he said.
As a young person, belonging to the future generation, the people who will define what is called Vietnam and Vietnamese culture, Manh Linh is always aware and tries to maintain the so-called values of origin.
He always tries to preserve and not lose his own identity when having the opportunity to connect and exchange with many cultures around the world.
