Hanoi announces third exam subject on 10th in late February

The third entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year in Hanoi is expected to be announced in late February 2025.

On the morning of February 20, information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) said that the Department is urgently completing the draft plan for enrollment in the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including enrollment in grade 10, to submit to the City People's Committee.

Admission to grade 10 is conducted by examination, including two subjects: Literature and Mathematics; the third subject is expected to be announced at the end of February 2025, immediately after being approved by the City People's Committee.

At this time, about 40 provinces and cities have announced the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, in which many localities choose the third subject to be a foreign language or English.

The reason why provinces and cities choose English as a subject is to motivate and encourage students to increase their foreign language learning in the context of international integration and to make English the second language in schools.

Early announcement also helps schools proactively plan teaching and review from semester 2, creating a comfortable and favorable mindset for both students and parents.

Nationwide, Ha Giang is the only one that chooses History and Geography as the third exam subject for admission to grade 10, instead of English.

In Hanoi, the three-subject entrance exam method has been implemented by the city for many years. In the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi will organize an entrance exam for three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language to recruit students to public schools.

According to Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDDT on regulations for junior high school and high school admission issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on December 30, 2024, high school admission is organized according to 1 of 3 methods: Admission, entrance exam, and combination of entrance exam and admission.

With the entrance exam method, students take two subjects: Math and Literature; the third subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training; announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.

However, the Ministry of Education and Training said that it is expected that in February, all provinces and cities will announce the third exam subject according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
