Ha Le: 'I give 90% of my income to my wife'

VnExpressVnExpress01/04/2024

Singer Ha Le said he voluntarily gave almost all of his earnings to his wife - dancer Gia Linh, the housekeeper.

The singer talks about work, married life with dancer Gia Linh, and the release of his new album - Simple.

- After a year of marriage, how have you changed?

- We got married after six years of love, being together for quite a while, understanding each other's work and life. Compared to before we got married, we are both quieter. In the past few years, our lives have had many things to worry about, so we have had to cut back on romantic dates. Sometimes, I feel guilty towards my wife. She also understands that during this period, we are together, sharing bigger goals, saving money to buy a house, have children. The joy of both of us is now small, sometimes just ordering a delicious dish together, sitting and enjoying it and chatting together. Occasionally, I still take my wife on trips.

I respect my wife because she understands, sympathizes and accepts my imperfect self. She doesn’t put pressure on me in life and gives me space to create art.

- How do you and your wife share finances?

- Before, I was single, had many friends, and spent all my income, even negative. Now, thanks to my wife, I have savings and can manage when my family has problems. I am very proactive in handing over my income to my wife to manage. My wife has her own job but I never ask about it. In general, her money is still hers, and my money is also hers.

- With a 13-year age gap, how do you reconcile the age gap?

- Age is not a problem for us, both in love and marriage. The first time I met Gia Linh was when she participated in the Dance Challenge, and I was the choreographer guiding the top 100 contestants. Linh was 16 years old that year, pretty and active. I wanted to get to know her but was rejected. After that, I loved someone else for a few years, also experienced a painful and difficult time when we broke up.

When we were in love, my wife and I didn't ask about each other's exes. I once told her: "We came together in the present, not the past. Moreover, if there weren't things in the past, we wouldn't have met."

Every time I look at Gia Linh, I see my younger self, and I have more motivation to try harder. More than ten years ago, like my wife now, I was also a dancer and choreographer. Linh is like me in the past, waking up early every day to practice, prepare lessons, perform, find shows to take care of the other members of the troupe. Looking at Linh's efforts, I think: "If a girl is so strong, how can I be lazy?"

- Before getting married, you said you would always give in to your wife, what about now?

- I am more tolerant than before, only occasionally using alcohol to act recklessly (laughs). From the time we fell in love until we got married, we rarely argued, only got angry for no reason. We never raised our voices. When we had problems, after just a few words, we quickly understood the problem. My wife is also hot-tempered and outspoken, but she is understanding and knows when to stop.

Between us, I am the more jealous one. I trust my wife, understand her personality, but sometimes I can't control my emotions. My wife, on the other hand, is less jealous. In life, I think everyone has faced temptation. But when thinking about the gains and losses, I always use reason and tell myself: "Am I willing to make a trade-off, and the answer is no."

- What are your plans for having a baby?

- A few months ago, we also planned to "hunt" for a dragon baby like everyone else. But then the couple clicked their tongues: "This year there are so many babies, if our child is born later, we will have to compete fiercely, from studying to everything else."

I am 40 years old but my wife is only 27, still young. We still think that children are a gift from God. When both husband and wife are comfortable and ready for their new role, children will come naturally.

- What is your current musical direction?

- Before, I was quite "rebellious", doing whatever I wanted. Now I have a family, with the added burden of making a living. I think more realistically, wanting my passion for singing to bring me more benefits, helping me live comfortably with my career, and being able to take good care of my wife.

My new album - Simple - aims for simplicity and rusticity. I want to convey many stories about childhood, family, and love, awakening dormant memories in each person.
