Che Tao Species Habitat Conservation Area, Mu Cang Chai District (Yen Bai) is located in 6 communes with a total area of over 20,290 hectares, and is one of the most beautiful conservation areas in Vietnam. The conservation area is an arc, formed by a system of high mountains from 1,700 - 2,500m, and is also a protective forest area of the Da River basin with many rare species of trees, including many tree populations recognized as Vietnam heritage trees.
Recently, the Management Board of the conservation area has coordinated with the People's Committee of Che Tao commune to establish patrol teams elected by the people, regularly taking turns to directly patrol through the forest. Mr. Giang A Long, Secretary of the Party Cell of Che Tao village, Che Tao commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai said: "Each household in the village contributes a part of the socialized fund for the team to patrol and inspect the forest. Since January 2024, the teams have maintained regular activities, ensuring that no tree cutting is detected in this area."
Patrol teams regularly go through the forest to check and protect precious tree species.
Che Tao is the locality with the largest forest area in Mu Cang Chai, with over 20,000 hectares, of which 18,000 hectares are located in the district's species and habitat conservation area. Here, the heritage tree populations of Po mu and Northeast Ironwood have been directly assigned to nearly 100 households in Che Tao village for management and protection. Mr. Giang A Hua, Vice Chairman of Che Tao Commune People's Committee, said that each year, people in the commune receive nearly 10 billion VND in forest environmental protection services. "The area of Ironwood trees is assigned to Che Tao village for contract, the commune also established community teams and groups to patrol and inspect. In addition to this area, the commune also developed a plan to patrol and inspect all areas with Po mu trees, large trees and some border points," said Mr. Hua.
Patrol team checks the condition of each heritage tree.
Because of good protection, the Mu Cang Chai District Species Habitat Conservation Area is still quite intact, with many species of broadleaf and coniferous trees and rich vegetation, along with 788 species of higher plants. Especially, there are over 3,000 rare Po mu trees from 100 to 700 years old; of which over 1,000 trees have a diameter of 1-3m, a height of 15-30m. From protecting the forest, local people also consider opening experiential tourism tours for visitors. Mr. Giang A De, a resident of La Pan Tan commune, Mu Cang Chai district, said: "We connect mountain climbing or exploration programs, we will focus on bringing them here. At the same time, connect with tourist attractions in Mu Cang Chai such as terraced fields, hawthorn flower tourist area...".
Che Tao Species Habitat Conservation Area is one of the most beautiful in Vietnam, the forest is still almost intact.
With the efforts of the Party Committee, local authorities and people in protecting forests and preserving heritage trees, Mu Cang Chai district can turn its beautiful forests into tourist attractions that attract a large number of tourists in the future, contributing to building Mu Cang Chai district into a tourist district according to the goals set out in the resolution of the 19th District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.
