Recognizing Vietnam Heritage Trees for 6 ancient trees in Phu Quoc

Two Southern Vietnamese trees in Bai Thom commune. One of them has a base circumference of 13.5m, is 25m high, and is about 700 years old; the other has a base circumference of 12.6m, is 26m high, and is about 600 years old.

Two kơ-nia trees in Ganh Dau commune. One tree has a base circumference of 15m, is 35m high, and is about 800 years old; the other tree has a base circumference of 13.6m, is 30m high, and is about 700 years old.

Two Phu Quoc Kien Kien trees in Ganh Dau commune. One tree has a base circumference of 4.5m, is 24m high, and is about 250 years old; the other tree has a base circumference of 4.5m, is 24m high, and is about 250 years old.

The recognition of 6 Vietnamese heritage trees aims to honor and spread the unique values of nature.

These are ancient trees of natural origin, with scientific, economic, environmental, cultural, historical and touristic values. They are also green milestones to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands, closely associated with the history of exploration and development of Phu Quoc.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tiep, Director of Phu Quoc National Park, Kien Giang province, said: This is a place to preserve and enhance the unique values of natural landscapes, ecosystems, and specific habitats; and to preserve the genetic resources of endemic, endangered, and rare species.

The ecosystem and forest resources of Phu Quoc National Park are closely linked to the lives of islanders and the socio-economic development, security and defense of Phu Quoc city.

The recognition of 6 Vietnamese heritage trees for the first time in Kien Giang province as well as Phu Quoc National Park aims to honor, acknowledge and spread the unique values of nature; promote the goals, meanings and values of heritage trees; help the conservation work and better public awareness of forest protection, environmental protection, the role of trees in life; promote and introduce the nature, people, culture and history of Phu Quoc to develop new products to promote local tourism.
