Young and energetic in real life, on stage, Nhat Minh made a strong impression on the audience with his sweet voice and professional performance style. The young man from Bac Lieu went through an emotional journey and reached the championship title at the program Solo with Bolero 2024!

Journey to the championship

Nhat Minh's real name is Nguyen Hoang Thuc, born in 1998 in Ca Mau and grew up in Bac Lieu. No one in his family is in the arts, but since his childhood, the young Nhat Minh has been passionately listening to the soulful melodies of famous singers Che Linh, Phuong Dung, Giao Linh... coming from his grandparents' old radio. Every time the family had a chance to gather together, Nhat Minh would sing lyrical songs, and from there, the passion for Bolero gradually grew in the young man's soul. While still in school, Nhat Minh actively participated in many artistic movements and sang in many coffee shops to hone his voice and performance style.

Later, when studying at university in Ho Chi Minh City, in 2018, Nhat Minh participated in the program "Whose Voice Is It" and had the honor of singing a duet with famous artists such as Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long and Thoai My. In order to go further on the singing path, Nhat Minh tried and made constant efforts to overcome obstacles. He shared that there were times when he was really wavering between his passion and the reality of life, but his love for Bolero helped him persevere in pursuing his dream.

The real opportunity came when Nhat Minh decided to try his hand at the program "Solo with Bolero 2024" - one of the big playgrounds for this music genre. With his lyrical voice, delicate handling and emotional performance style, Nhat Minh conquered the audience right from the first rounds. During the 6 months of participating in the program, the pressure and anxiety of how to perform and best express the soul of the song made him sleepless many nights, at times practicing so much that he lost his voice. Each round is a new challenge, requiring creativity and constant effort. At the final night, with a profound and emotional performance of the medley "Khốc tham" and "Áo em chua mac mot lan", Nhat Minh excelled over many promising young singers to reach the championship title of the competition. It is not only the result of his tireless efforts but also an important milestone marking the maturity of a promising young singer in the Vietnamese Bolero village.

Bringing old music closer to young people

Among the myriad of modern music genres, Bolero still holds a special place in the hearts of the public. In fact, more and more young people are expressing their love and passion for this ancient music genre. Although many new music genres are attracting many people, Bolero still attracts and captivates many people with its gentle, profound melody, with the feelings contained in each song, and the emotions conveyed in each verse!

Notably, up to now, there are 2 contestants from Bac Lieu who have won the championship title in the program "Solo with Bolero", namely: Lam Ngoc Hoa (born in 1994) - Champion of the first season in 2015. Previously, she won the Silver Prize in the "Golden Bell of Traditional Opera" contest in 2013; Gold Medal in the Prospective category of the Tran Huu Trang Award and Silver Medal in the National Young Talent Award 2014. Not coming from a reformed opera background like Ngoc Hoa, Nhat Minh chose Bolero music to pursue from the early days of singing and conquered listeners with his warm voice and confident performance style. Both have contributed to affirming Bac Lieu's position when not only is it "strong" in reformed opera but also has many talented faces with Bolero music.

“Bolero is not only for the elderly but can also touch the hearts of young people. The proof is that at this year's competition, I have tried very hard to surpass many young faces with good and emotional voices. As a son of Bac Lieu, in the coming time, I want to carry out many projects towards my hometown to bring everyone a beautiful image of the place where I grew up, most of all, to preserve and promote the value of old music in the hearts of music lovers in general and young people in particular,” Nhat Minh shared.
