Quang Nam opens technical traffic to Song Thu bridge and An Binh bridge

Key projects

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong - Director of the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the northwestern region of the province has a system of Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers flowing through, dividing and forming ferry piers serving livelihoods such as Trung Phuoc, Tinh Yen, Ben Dau, Phu Thuan...

However, due to the inadequate ferry system, limited traffic and trade, people's travel and transportation of goods face many difficulties, causing great obstacles to socio-economic development and traffic safety. Therefore, investment in the construction of a road bridge system connecting these two rivers is an urgent need.

In recent years, Quang Nam has mobilized nearly 930 billion VND in resources to invest in the project of connecting National Highway (QL) 14H to DT609C, including Song Thu Bridge, and the project of connecting road from DT609C to QL14B, including An Binh Bridge.

The two completed projects will contribute to forming the North-South strategic road axis according to the province's Transport Planning orientation; ensuring security and defense; expanding space, contributing to promoting the province's socio-economic development.

The project of connecting road from National Highway 14H to Provincial Road 609C was started on September 5, 2022 with a total investment of more than 378 billion VND, from the provincial budget. The project has a total length of 6km, of which 0.9km utilizes the existing road connecting from National Highway 14H across in front of Duy Phu commune headquarters (Duy Xuyen).

The project starts at the intersection with National Highway 14H in Duy Phu Commune; ends at the intersection with Highway 5.DL in Dai Thang Commune (Dai Loc). Song Thu Bridge over Thu Bon River is 669m long, with a prestressed reinforced concrete girder span structure.

Construction started on February 22, 2022. The project connecting DT609C to QL14B has a total investment of 550 billion VND, of which the central budget supports 440 billion VND. The total length of the route is 3.93 km, of which An Binh bridge across Vu Gia river is more than 1,060 m long, a permanent structure made of reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete.

Notably, Song Thu Bridge and An Binh Bridge are both 9m wide, with the roadway being 8m wide. The roadway is made of asphalt concrete with a 9m wide roadbed, with the road surface being 8m wide. The entire route of the project is equipped with an electric lighting system.

Driving force for development

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, in the early days of construction, the project faced many difficulties and challenges, especially the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it difficult to transport materials and mobilize human resources for construction. Notably, construction materials such as earth, sand, etc. have been scarce in recent years...

However, with the attention and close direction of leaders at all levels, the close coordination, support and consensus of agencies, departments, localities and all people, the collective of cadres, engineers, workers and construction units overcame all challenges to complete on schedule, fully meeting technical and traffic safety requirements.

“During the construction process, the project has applied advanced technologies, ensuring the quality and progress of the project. Song Thu Bridge and An Binh Bridge are not only traffic works, but also symbols of the determination, solidarity, overcoming difficulties and aspirations of Quang Nam province,” said Mr. Thuong.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Nam Hung emphasized that these two bridges not only demonstrate the province's technical capacity and project implementation organization, but are also a fundamental and sustainable solution to overcome the geographical separation, completely eliminating the form of traveling by boat, which has many potential risks of insecurity, especially during the rainy season. Now, people can feel secure in traveling, producing, and trading more conveniently.

At the same time, connecting the communes of Tay Duy Xuyen and Dai Loc B areas, shortening travel distances, promoting tourism and cultural development in the western districts. Thereby, creating conditions to attract investment, improve the quality of life and expand urban space, while strengthening national defense and security.

This is not only a traffic project but also a new driving force for development, the people's belief and pride in a modern, growing and developing Quang Nam.

“I request that localities focus on resolving all problems in site clearance to hand over the entire construction site to ensure progress. Investors and relevant units continue to speed up the completion of remaining items such as bridge access roads, traffic safety systems, organize acceptance and put into operation in accordance with regulations, contributing to serving well the needs of trade and travel of the people, promoting investment efficiency” - Mr. Hung said.

After the ceremony, provincial leaders cut the ribbon to open the technical traffic and affixed a plaque recognizing the project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Nam province (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025) and the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Provincial Party Committee (March 28, 1930 - March 28, 2025) for Song Thu bridge and An Binh bridge.
