On the morning of June 23, at An Hoa Pagoda, Phu My Town, Phu Tan District (An Giang Province), the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha solemnly held a Grand Ceremony to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the founding of Hoa Hao Buddhism by Venerable Huynh Giao Chu (May 18, 1939 - May 18, 2024).
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyen Anh Chuc; representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Military Region 9 Command; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province and Phu Tan district, along with a large number of Hoa Hao Buddhists.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat, Head of the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha, said that over the years, all fellow Buddhists, together with the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha, the Representative Boards of provinces and cities, and the grassroots Executive Boards have diligently practiced, preserved the purity of the true teachings, and followed the teachings of the Master to develop the "humanistic" religion associated with promoting ethical values and the quintessence of national culture.
With the direction of "For the Dharma, for the nation", accompanying the nation, followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism have promoted the superiority of religion, well implemented campaigns and patriotic emulation movements launched by the Party, State, Fatherland Front and organizations; contributed to improving the material and spiritual life of fellow Buddhists in particular and the people in general; actively attached to the community, accompanying religions in the great national unity bloc.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province Nguyen Tiec Hung affirmed that over the past 85 years, with the motto and practice of "Studying Buddhism, cultivating oneself", "Being a lay Buddhist at home", and implementing the "Four Graces", the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church has preserved the true teachings, promoted moral values for fellow believers, and contributed to upholding the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of solidarity, attachment, and accompanying the nation.
Currently, with the direction of "For the Dharma, for the nation", "Living a good life and a beautiful religion", the Central Executive Committee of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha, the members, officials and all Hoa Hao Buddhists continue to promote the tradition of patriotism, solidarity and companionship with the nation, well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws; actively respond and participate in many patriotic emulation movements and campaigns launched by the Central and An Giang province.
In particular, the entire Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha continues to care for the poor and those in difficult circumstances, build social welfare projects, encourage learning, encourage talents, charity kitchens, medical clinics, etc. The value of contributions to the social charity fund in the entire religion is higher year after year. Thereby, together with the local government, the Sangha has well implemented social security, built new rural areas; demonstrated profound humanity, the spirit of mutual love, solidarity, harmony among the people and built and protected the Fatherland.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang Province Nguyen Tiec Hung believes that in the coming time, the Church and followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism will continue to join hands with the people of the whole country to foster the great national unity bloc, strengthen social consensus, inherit and promote the good moral and cultural values of the nation, respond to and actively participate in patriotic emulation movements and campaigns launched by Party committees, authorities and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels, contributing to the realization of the common goal of "Rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization".
Currently, Hoa Hao Buddhism has more than 400 grassroots Executive Committees in communes, wards, and provincial towns in 17 provinces and cities. In the first 6 months of 2024, Hoa Hao Buddhist followers contributed over 400 billion VND (An Giang alone reached over 45 billion VND) to carry out social and charitable activities, build new rural areas, solidarity houses, and charity houses to help the poor.
