Pioneer Unit
The Field is the first unit in Vietnam to achieve the Gold Platinum Low - Carbon Tourism Standard - a title certified by the Thai Environmental Management Foundation and Magnus International Company.
The criteria for certification are hotels and restaurants that operate sustainably, consider environmental impacts and commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In Thailand, many businesses operating in the tourism sector have achieved this certification.

For The Field, this unit has met the strict low carbon emission standards set by Thailand.
Mr. Tirawit Balajiva - CEO of Magnus International Thailand said that although it is the first unit in Vietnam to be certified, through review and survey, experts have determined that the low carbon emission practices at The Field restaurant are even superior to many units in Thailand that they have certified.
The Field Restaurant is a restaurant belonging to EMIC Hospitality Company - a service and tourism ecosystem in Hoi An, providing a comprehensive range of services to enhance the visitor experience, from accommodation, cuisine and health care treatments to tours.
At the ceremony to award the platinum certificate for low carbon emissions to The Field restaurant, Emic Hospitality also signed a memorandum of cooperation on “sustainable environmental initiatives towards net zero emissions for Hoi An city” with the Environmental Management Foundation (EMFF) for 5 years.
The Field has ensured carbon emission reduction standards from the smallest activities, from waste management activities of all departments and restaurants; training - coaching on waste management; implementing initiatives to reduce waste and manage energy; having activities to implement community responsibility for the environment and livelihoods.
Sustainable tourism development
Mr. Phan Xuan Thanh - General Director of Emic Hospitality Hoi An Co., Ltd. said that the goal of recording this agreement is to promote the important role of stakeholders, from the government, private sector, educational institutions, civil society, media, researchers and the public in developing tourism focusing on reducing carbon emissions at the local level.

Hoi An has had more than 10 years of approaching and practicing solutions related to waste classification at source, emission reduction, recycling, and circulation. In agriculture, this locality has supported and mobilized people to gradually convert from conventional production methods to cleaner production, especially production according to organic processes.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said: "As a state manager, we strongly support businesses to develop in a green and sustainable direction, but we also need to constantly innovate, improve and upgrade. Because only when we have such a mindset can we position the unique value of Hoi An tourism industry in the country and in the world."
The community of residents and businesses has changed a lot, creating sustainable models in the production process, providing services to society, including the tourism sector.
However, what has prevented the local approach to low-carbon emission reduction in general and in the tourism industry in particular from moving forward is that general policies to encourage this issue at the national level still have many barriers.

According to Mr. Tirawit Balajiva, many surveys around the world show that tourists increasingly prefer sustainable tourism models and those that reduce carbon emissions, especially European markets - which are Hoi An's traditional tourist markets.
“The signing of the memorandum of understanding with Emic Hospitality is also with the desire to spread the trend of carbon-reducing tourism in Hoi An in the coming time. Any local unit that wants to learn and approach this field, we will create all conditions to promote the trend to spread widely in Hoi An,” said Mr. Tirawit Balajiva.
