Up to now, Hanoi has a number of high-quality secondary schools, including: Cau Giay Secondary School (Cau Giay District); Thanh Xuan Secondary School (Thanh Xuan District); Nam Tu Liem Secondary School (Nam Tu Liem District), Le Loi Secondary School (Ha Dong District)... These are high-quality public secondary schools that organize capacity assessment tests to enroll 6th graders and are also highly competitive, with many excellent students setting study goals. Currently, these very hot schools have officially announced their enrollment plans.
According to the announcement of Thanh Xuan Secondary School, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school will enroll 9 grade 6 classes with 342 students (with registered residence in Hanoi). The school's enrollment method remains stable as in previous years, combining admission with testing and assessment of capacity.
Along with that, Cau Giay Secondary School also announced the enrollment of 440 6th graders for the next school year. However, the school only enrolls students with permanent residence or actual residence in Cau Giay district. The school stipulates that students meet the preliminary selection criteria when their total final exam score for grades 1 and 2 in Math and Vietnamese is at least 18 points. At the same time, the total score of the final periodic exam in Math, Vietnamese, and English in grades 3, 4, and 5 must be 26 or higher, with no subject below 8. This means that students cannot have a score below 9 in the first 2 years of primary school and cannot have more than 1 score of 8 in each year of grades 3, 4, and 5 in the 3 subjects for admission.
For junior high schools affiliated with universities, Nguyen Tat Thanh Junior High School and High School also has an early enrollment schedule. For grade 6 enrollment in the 2024-2025 school year, there will be an increase of 20 quotas compared to 2023, reaching 270 quotas. The school's enrollment method remains stable as in 2023. Only one enrollment method will be applied for grade 6, which is a competency assessment test with 3 exams: Math (45 minutes), Literature (45 minutes) and English (30 minutes). The test content is mainly in the grade 5 program of the 2006 General Education Program. The application period is from May 3 to May 19; the entrance exam will be held on June 2.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Foreign Language Secondary School, under the University of Foreign Languages - Vietnam National University, Hanoi plans to enroll 150 students in grade 6. The aptitude test for admission will take place on June 8.
With a system of high-quality non-public secondary schools, since last April, nearly 4,000 5th graders have completed the entrance exam for grade 6 at Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School (Hanoi) for the 2024-2025 school year. With a total quota of 560 students, the school's 6th grade competition ratio is about 1 to 7. Similar to the previous school year, this year, the Cau Giay campus and Thanh Tri campus of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School each recruited 280 6th grade students.
To reduce the pressure of primary school admissions, many education experts advise that the best school is the school that “best suits” the child’s and family’s abilities. The nature of the annual primary school admissions race is that parents always want their children to study at a school with good quality. According to actual records over the past many years, the admission process for primary and secondary schools at private schools with brands and reputations is much more stressful than that of public schools.
