Gold price today March 21, 2025: Domestic gold price fell below 100 million VND/tael, after reaching a peak of nearly 101 million VND/tael, amid the strong increase of the world market. This is quite an unexpected development after a series of increases of millions of VND in many consecutive days. However, gold price is still forecasted to increase due to many factors.

Update gold price today 3/21/2025
Domestic gold prices have turned down, after continuously reaching unprecedented highs for many days .
As of the afternoon of March 20, compared to the historical peak recorded in the morning of the same day, the price of 9999 round smooth gold rings and SJC gold bars simultaneously decreased by an average of 500,000 - 700,000 VND per tael. Previously, in the morning, the domestic gold price continued to increase vertically, reaching a historical peak of nearly 101 million VND/tael. The difference between buying and selling prices was kept high by businesses, about 2 million VND/tael.
According to observations, the number of people coming to the trading centers is quite large, however, the number of buyers is many times greater than the number of sellers. Among them, some people hold gold to sell to make a profit, to get "huge" profits and they often sell a lot. Meanwhile, buyers are only allowed to buy a maximum of 1 tael of gold.
According to domestic experts, the sharp increase in domestic gold prices in recent times is due to the influence of the world's increasing momentum. Uncertain factors in the international market related to the US's tariff policy with its trading partners have made investors worried and seek gold as a safe haven. If the unstable factors related to tariff policy, geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East and the US economy are not completely resolved, gold may continue to increase.
The price of SJC gold bars decreased by about 800,000 VND/tael for buying and 600,000 VND/tael for selling. At the end of the day, at major brands PNJ, SJC and DOJI, the price of SJC gold bars was listed at 97.8 - 99.8 million VND/tael. Bao Tin Minh Chau also reduced the price of gold bars to 98.3 - 100.1 million VND/tael.
The price of 9999 round gold rings has dropped sharply. At SJC, it is currently 97.7 - 98.8 million VND/tael; DOJI has dropped to 98.5 - 99.3 million VND/tael; PNJ has dropped to 98.1 - 99.9 million VND/tael; Bao Tin Minh Chau is trading at 98 - 99.8 million VND/tael.
World gold price increased beyond the record mark of 3,000 USD/ounce.
According to the World and Vietnam records at 4:45 p.m. on March 20 (Hanoi time) on the Kitco electronic trading floor, the world spot gold price decreased by 15.7 USD to trade at 3,032.60 USD/ounce.
Thus, as predicted by analysts at the beginning of the year, on the world market, the gold price fluctuates around 3,052 USD/ounce. Converted to the USD exchange rate, the world gold price is about 94.6 million VND/tael, excluding taxes and fees.
Despite the US dollar index rising 0.18% to 103.10, gold prices continued to rise, showing a strong upward momentum for the precious metal. Amid escalating global trade tensions and growing economic uncertainty, gold continued to demonstrate its traditional role as a store of value during times of geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
According to market analysts, this trend reflects increasing investor concerns about economic stability and inflation risks. The increase in gold has outpaced the slight increase in the US dollar. This shows strong demand for safe-haven assets.
Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) agreed to keep its benchmark interest rate in the range of 4.25% - 4.50%, while deciding to slow down the pace of shrinking its balance sheet.
Market attention is now shifting from monetary policy to the administration’s trade agenda and its potential consequences. The 25% import tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, along with 20% on imports from China, have been fully implemented and are beginning to disrupt global trade flows.

Gold price momentum has changed
While central banks were the main buyers behind last year's gold rally, the main driver has now shifted to currency devaluation concerns and risk-off sentiment, said Daniel Ghali, senior commodity strategist at TD Securities.
“Central bank gold buying is a secular trend. I think since 2010, the scope of central bank gold buying has started to increase. And the fact is that there is a huge difference in why these central banks buy gold,” said Ghali.
Strategist Daniel Ghali listed the non-dollar trend factors that have become stronger since sanctions on Russia, which have prompted other countries to seek some diversification away from the dollar. He actually thinks the more relevant factor in gold buying is as a hedge against currency depreciation.
“We actually started the year with a pretty strong rally in the dollar,” Ghali noted. “It’s counterintuitive, but if you’re a country that wants to diversify away from the dollar, you can take advantage of periods of relatively strong dollar strength to sell dollar-denominated assets and buy non-dollar-denominated assets, one of which is gold.”
That currency depreciation pressure is actually what, counterintuitively, has driven central bank gold buying this year.
But the greenback has fallen in value since then – along with the US stock market – and this has officially changed the market dynamics, driving gold prices up once again.
“This is the great part of setting a new high for gold this year. In fact, the market has almost perfect diversification in terms of the big drivers of gold buying,” Ghali said. On the one hand, if the dollar rises, the ‘mystery buyers’ of central banks will step in. But when the dollar falls, Western investors tend to buy gold too – that’s the traditional reason to buy gold, the inverse relationship with interest rates and the dollar…
