Gold prices rise on news of US increasing car import tax

Compared to noon today, the world gold price increased by 30 USD/ounce, equivalent to 931,000 VND/tael.

Converted according to the exchange rate listed at the bank, the world gold price is equivalent to 95 million VND/tael. The shocking increase in the world gold price tonight surprised many people.

According to expert Tran Duy Phuong, the shocking increase in world gold prices tonight was due to the impact of the news that US President Donald Trump imposed a 25% import tax on all cars entering the US, 10 times higher than the current rate. The new tax rate will take effect on April 2 and help the US budget have more than 100 billion USD each year.

In addition, according to analysts, gold prices increased again due to hedging demand ahead of the new tariff plan that US President Donald Trump is expected to announce next week.

Earlier this week, Mr. Trump signaled that he might soften on tariffs on April 2, when he is expected to announce “reciprocal” tariffs and tariffs on some industries.

Economists have warned that tariffs could put downward pressure on growth and push up inflation, an environment that is conducive to gold prices.

Domestically, the selling price of SJC gold bars at the end of today was VND98.9 million/tael, an increase of VND500,000/tael compared to yesterday. The buying price was VND97.4 million/tael, an increase of VND700,000/tael. The difference between the buying and selling prices decreased to VND1.5 million/tael.

The price of 9999 gold rings at SJC Company also increased by 500,000 VND/tael, to 98.7 million VND/tael, the buying price was at 97.2 million VND/tael.

At PNJ Company, the selling price of gold rings jumped to 99.4 million VND/tael, buying price 97.4 million VND/tael, an increase of 400,000 VND/tael for selling and 700,000 VND/tael for buying.

Notably, the selling price of 9999 gold rings at PNJ Company is 500,000 VND/tael higher than the selling price of SJC gold bars. Meanwhile, the buying price of gold bars and gold rings is equal.

At Bao Tin Minh Chau Company, the price of gold rings increased to 99.5 million VND/tael, buying at 97.4 million VND/tael.

Compared to the converted world gold price, the domestic gold price is about 4.5 million VND/tael higher.
