DNVN - Domestic coffee prices continued their upward trend on February 7, 2025, while pepper prices also increased by about 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg.
Coffee recorded a significant increase
In the world market on February 7, 2025, at 4:30 a.m., updated data from the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV) showed that coffee prices continuously changed according to developments on international exchanges, and MXV is the only unit in Vietnam directly connected to global exchanges.
The three largest coffee futures exchanges, ICE Futures Europe, ICE Futures US and B3 Brazil, continuously update trading data through Y5Cafe.
At the London floor, at 4:30 a.m. on February 7, 2025, Robusta coffee prices fluctuated in opposite directions. Specifically, the contract for delivery in March 2025 decreased by 10 USD/ton to 5,633 USD/ton, while the price for delivery in May 2025 remained unchanged at 5,646 USD/ton. The contract for delivery in July 2025 increased by 21 USD/ton to 5,601 USD/ton, while the contract for delivery in September 2025 increased by 47 USD/ton to 5,535 USD/ton.
At the end of the trading session, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor maintained a strong upward trend for the 11th consecutive session, with an increase range of 6.20 - 8.55 cents/lb, ranging from 378.80 - 403.95 cents/lb. Specifically, the contract for delivery in March 2025 reached 403.95 cents/lb (up 6.20 cents/lb), May 2025 reached 397.10 cents/lb (up 6.45 cents/lb), July 2025 reached 388.75 cents/lb (up 7.35 cents/lb) and September 2025 reached 378.80 cents/lb (up 8.55 cents/lb).
Similarly, the price of Brazilian Arabica coffee at the end of the trading session maintained an upward trend. The contract for March 2025 reached 496.05 USD/ton (up 0.85 USD/ton), for May 2025 reached 491.00 USD/ton (up 7.35 USD/ton), for July 2025 reached 489.75 USD/ton (up 9.70 USD/ton). The contract for September 2025 decreased slightly to 469.50 USD/ton (down 1 USD/ton).
The Robusta coffee trading floor at ICE Futures Europe (London) operates from 16:00 to 00:30 the following day Vietnam time, while the ICE Futures US floor (New York) opens from 16:15 and closes at 01:30 the following day. Meanwhile, the B3 Brazil trading floor for Arabica coffee operates from 19:00 to 02:35 the following day.
Updated at 5:00 a.m. on February 7, 2025, domestic coffee prices maintained an upward trend compared to the previous session, averaging VND 130,400/kg, an increase of VND 1,400/kg.
The Central Highlands region recorded the highest coffee purchase price at VND130,500/kg. Of which, Dak Lak traded at VND130,400/kg (up VND1,400/kg), Lam Dong reached VND129,500/kg (up VND1,200/kg), Gia Lai recorded VND130,400/kg (up VND1,400/kg) and Dak Nong reached VND130,500/kg (up VND1,300/kg).
Domestic coffee prices announced daily by Giacaphe.com are based on a combination of fluctuations on two world exchanges and actual surveys from purchasing agents in major production areas.
Vietnam, the world’s leading producer of Robusta coffee, is facing a number of supply challenges that could push global inventories to their lowest level in 25 years.
Industry experts say that the amount of coffee in warehouses controlled by the exchange continues to decline. However, the amount of coffee awaiting quality assessment is increasing, reflecting that record high prices are attracting more supply to the market.
Pepper price reached 151,000 - 153,000 VND/kg
As of 5:00 a.m. on February 7, 2025, domestic pepper prices were trading in the range of 151,000 - 153,000 VND/kg.
In major production areas such as Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc, the highest price was recorded at 153,000 VND/kg.
Details by locality: Dak Nong recorded a price of 153,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,500 VND/kg compared to the previous day. Gia Lai is currently trading at 151,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg.
In Dak Lak, pepper price today reached 153,000 VND/kg, up 2,000 VND/kg compared to the previous session. Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai both recorded prices of 152,000 VND/kg, up 2,000 VND/kg. Ba Ria - Vung Tau also reached 152,000 VND/kg, up 2,000 VND/kg.
Thus, the lowest domestic pepper price is currently 151,000 VND/kg.
In the world market, according to the update from the International Pepper Association (IPC) based on export quotes from businesses, the international pepper price on February 7 was as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged at $7,283 per tonne, while Muntok white pepper remained unchanged at $9,780 per tonne.
Black pepper ASTA 570 from Brazil edged up to $6,400/ton, up 1.56% from the previous session.
Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price remained stable at $9,000/ton, while the country's ASTA white pepper remained stable at $11,600/ton.
The export price of pepper from Vietnam remained unchanged compared to the previous day. Black pepper of 500 gr/l reached 6,500 USD/ton, and 550 gr/l recorded 6,650 USD/ton.
Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper export price continues to remain unchanged at 9,550 USD/ton.
