Leaders of Vinh Long province visited and worked with the Japan International Cooperation Agency

(VLO) From March 25 to April 1, a delegation from Vinh Long province led by Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi organized a trade promotion event in Japan.

The delegation of Vinh Long province presented gifts and took souvenir photos with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The delegation had a working session with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Mr. Kobayashi Yosuke - Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam received and worked with the delegation.

JICA is the agency implementing ODA aid of the Japanese Government through 3 forms: technical cooperation, loan cooperation and non-refundable aid. The close and effective cooperation between JICA and sectors and localities has made an important contribution to the socio-economic development and improvement of infrastructure in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi said that since October 2009, Vinh Long province has participated in the project "Strengthening the agricultural extension system to apply effective farming systems and techniques for poor farmers in the Mekong Delta" funded by the Japanese Government. The project supports Vinh Long province in implementing 2 hectares of model land and about 20 hectares of expanded model land; transferring techniques to orange growers in Tam Binh district; supporting the province's fruit tree nursery to build net houses to produce seedlings; supporting the provincial agricultural sector to build a plant hospital and improving the management capacity of agricultural staff in the field of citrus production.

Vinh Long has a strong agricultural sector, with many key products such as rice, fruits, and seafood. However, the province is also facing many major challenges in agricultural development, such as the impact of climate change, environmental pollution, and uneven application of modern production technologies.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi proposed that JICA consider supporting Vinh Long province to improve production efficiency, meet export standards to Japan for some tropical fruit trees. Priority will be given to grapefruit trees, and can be expanded to other products such as longan, rambutan, mango, and orange. At the same time, he hoped that JICA would soon consider approving funding for a cooperation project between Vinh Long province and Niigata University on improving farmers' production quality, reducing emissions, and responding to climate change.

Mr. Kobayashi Yosuke - Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) thanked the delegation of Vinh Long province for visiting and working. Regarding the cooperation project between Vinh Long and Nigata University, the representative of JICA said that if the project is assessed for support, the support will mainly be on technical issues. At the same time, he hoped that Vinh Long province would continue to promote cooperation in many aspects with Nigata University in the near future.

On this occasion, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi presented the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with a souvenir gift of a painting of Vinh Long pottery kiln.
