Come to the "homeland" of pho to learn how to make the traditional dish
Since the 1900s of the last century, people from Van Cu village, Dong Son commune, Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh province have started going to Hanoi to sell pho, from which the delicious dish has spread throughout the provinces and cities nationwide as it is today. This village is considered the "homeland" of Vietnamese pho with its original characteristics originating from a bowl of pho with cooked beef. It is known that to make a traditional bowl of pho, in addition to the ingredients that must be carefully selected, people from Van Cu village also hold the secret of hand-made pho noodles that meet the criteria of "soft, thin, chewy".
During the Pho Festival, at the culinary area of Van Cu village communal house, the process of making the famous pho was carried out by artisans in the village, attracting the participation of many locals and domestic and foreign tourists. Attendees had the opportunity to make pho noodles by hand and enjoy beef pho with the original traditional flavor.
In addition, the event also includes activities to learn about the formation and development of pho over time through folk music performances, village festival ceremonies, and ancestor worship ceremonies...
Ms. Xuan - a tourist from Hanoi said: "As someone who often chooses pho for breakfast, I learned that this dish originated in Nam Dinh, so I went with my family to Van Cu village to visit and learn. Being able to personally make pho noodles to create white, soft and chewy pho noodles, then directly enjoying hot, delicious bowls of pho; my family was very excited."
In the courtyard of Van Cu communal house on the same morning, thousands of students from Dong Son Primary School and Dong Son Secondary School (Nam Truc district, Nam Dinh) enjoyed a bowl of famous traditional pho from Van Cu village and learned how to make a delicious bowl of pho.
The activity of visiting Van Cu Pho village is part of the 2024 Pho Festival to honor traditional dishes. At the same time, this is an opportunity for visitors and locals to learn about and enjoy the flavor of Pho associated with regional culture; contributing to promoting Pho further on the world culinary map.
Efforts to develop Nam Dinh pho industry
To preserve the traditional profession and original values from their ancestors, the pho makers of Van Cu Village gathered artisans to establish the Van Cu Pho Club and build the Van Cu Traditional Pho Association (under the Nam Dinh Culinary Culture Association).
Artisan Co Nhu Doi, a 4th generation pho maker from Van Cu village with over 35 years of experience, shared his thoughts: “We want to make quality dishes with real work from real people from Van Cu village. We are also thinking about building pho shops in Van Cu village with consistent quality and signs to create a brand identity for tourists."
Also on the morning of March 15, Chin-su brand signed a cooperation agreement with Van Cu Village Pho Association to join hands to protect, develop and honor the pho profession, contributing to preserving national culture and developing the local economy. At the same time, Masan Consumer Company also donated 300 million VND to support Nam Dinh Province Culinary Culture Association to implement the Van Cu pho heritage program.
The series of events held over 3 days in Nam Dinh province is expected to attract a large number of tourists. Through the Festival, the organizers aim to turn pho into a “national brand”, closely linked to the development of domestic and international tourism. The 2024 Pho Festival is expected to be a step forward in the effort to turn Vietnamese pho into a national and world intangible cultural heritage.
Pho Festival 2024 with the theme "Vietnamese Pho Road" takes place from March 15 - 17, 2024, directed by Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee and co-organized by Masan Consumer Goods Joint Stock Company; with the support of Vietnam Fish Sauce Association, Chin-su brand and Pho Story. In addition to the visit to Van Cu Pho village, a series of other attractive activities such as: establishing a giant pho pot, promoting "Vietnamese Pho Flavor", youth music night "Pho in Me", discussion "Vietnamese Pho Road and Pho Noodles", distributing experience coupons of 15,000 VND for a bowl of pho... will take place at the square of Nam Cuong Hotel (Nam Dinh City), starting from the afternoon of March 15. |
