No longer a joke "do you want to eat slippers", recently, on social networking sites, images and videos of crocs shaped cakes have been continuously shared, making many people curious and inviting each other to try them.

First appearing in Ho Chi Minh City, Banh Sandal impresses with its unique shape, exactly like a Crocs sandal with delicious, soft flavor and attractive layer of shredded cheese.

According to the reporter's records, crocs cakes are meticulously shaped, the cake mold is made of metal, the structure is similar to the coin cake mold or fish cake mold before, only the shape is different, one batch can make 8 cakes.

When pouring the batter, the cakes look quite normal, but after only 4 minutes of baking, they will "transform" into beautiful, golden, crispy little slippers. The cakes are baked just enough to be crispy on the outside but the cheese filling inside must be hot enough to melt. Each cake also comes with a sticker cake.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (33 years old), owner of a banh sandal shop on Hang Vai Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, said that she was the first person to make banh sandal to sell in Hanoi. Although she has only been selling for about a month, the number of customers coming to buy is still so large.

According to Ms. Van, while surfing social media, she saw a video of the cakes being sold in Japan, so she imported the machine to try making them and posted it on social media. Shortly after, customers flocked from morning to night, some people had to wait for hours to buy cakes.

Regarding the ingredients and recipe, Ms. Van said that the way to make the cake is exactly the same as the previous cheese coin cake, except that the mold is shaped like a crocs. In addition to the basic cheese flavor, the cake has 8 more flavors from salty to sweet such as corn, pork floss, red beans, almonds, salted eggs... With a "reasonable" price, 30,000 VND for the traditional flavor and 35,000 VND for the type with filling, the cake quickly became a "hot trend" snack in Hanoi.

“When I first started selling it, I didn’t think it would be so “hot”. Maybe because many people often joked with each other, “Do you want to eat a flip-flop?”, so the cake that looks like a real flip-flop and can be eaten made people curious and excited,” Ms. Van shared.

Currently, Ms. Van’s shop only has 2 baking machines. Each batch takes 4 minutes to bake and produces 4 cakes. Because there are so many customers, Ms. Diep and her 3 employees work constantly but still cannot keep up. Many people have to wait for hours to buy the cakes to eat. Therefore, some people buy dozens of cakes at once.

The shop owner said that the number of customers coming to the shop every day is very large, on average about 300 cakes are sold, on peak days it can be up to more than 1,500 cakes, everyone who comes here usually buys a pair of cakes, equivalent to "a pair of slippers". The most crowded are students, university students and children.

Crocs first appeared in Japan around September 2024 at the sweet shop Lattencos located in Shin Okubo, Shinjuku. This type of cake is shaped like a pair of crocs, with a shoe box like when bought in the store. The price of the cake is 500 yen each (about 85,000 VND), very popular among young Japanese people.
