PROUD TO HAVE "RAISED" UNCLE HO
Duong No village (now Phu Duong commune, Hue city, Thua Thien-Hue), 7 km from the center of Hue city, is located on the Pho Loi river, formed during the southward expansion of the Vietnamese people. During the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1471), a large and majestic communal house was built on the Pho Loi river to commemorate the ancestors. This is also a village that has all the typical elements of a traditional Vietnamese village with "banyan tree - ferry - communal house yard", which has become the historical source and cultural tradition that nurtures the noble souls of many generations of Vietnamese people.
In the bright early summer sunshine, the people of Duong No village are excitedly celebrating the village festival with pride in the place where Uncle Ho lived during his childhood. The Duong No village festival is being held for the first time to celebrate the 133rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2023).
Uncle Ho's childhood memorial house at the special national relic site of Duong No village
According to historical documents of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, in 1898, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac (father of President Ho Chi Minh) was invited by Mr. Nguyen Si Do to come home to teach (in Duong No village). Uncle Ho's two brothers, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Khiem and Nguyen Sinh Cung, followed their father here, both to ease the family's economic burden on Mrs. Loan, and also to give Mr. Sac the opportunity to teach his two children who were old enough to learn to read and write.
Returning to live in Duong No village, Mr. Sac's family was given a three-room, two-wing thatched house by Mr. Do's family as a place for him and his two children to live, and it was also where Mr. Sac opened a class to teach. At this house, Nguyen Sinh Cung and his older brother Nguyen Sinh Khiem were initiated into Chinese characters by their teacher, who was also their father. The words "Nhan" and "Nghia" were like teachings on human morality. During two years studying with his father here, Nguyen Sinh Cung learned very quickly, becoming an outstandingly intelligent student of the class. The knowledge he acquired during this time was a solid foundation for his future academic development.
Living in Duong No village for more than 10 years, a peaceful and quiet village rich in cultural traditions, Nguyen Sinh Cung had the opportunity to integrate into the village community life, was surrounded by the love, kindness and tolerance of the simple and loyal villagers, and witnessed the hard-working life of the simple farmers. These things contributed to the formation of the deep love for the homeland of Nguyen Sinh Cung - Nguyen Tat Thanh - Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh.
Duong No communal house was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national cultural and artistic relic on December 23, 1995. Uncle Ho's memorial house in Duong No and the system of President Ho Chi Minh relics in Thua Thien-Hue were ranked as special national historical relics by the Prime Minister on December 31, 2020 (including 4 relics previously ranked as national relics: Uncle Ho's memorial house on Mai Thuc Loan Street, Hue National School Site, President Ho Chi Minh's childhood memorial house in Duong No village, and Duong No communal house).
FORMATION OF ANNUAL FESTIVAL
Duong No Village Festival is held from May 16 to 18 at the special national relic complex in Duong No village, with many activities such as: the procession and offering of lotus flowers to President Ho Chi Minh, the traditional racing festival on Pho Loi River, cultural, artistic and culinary activities... The festival will be a special experience for people and tourists to return to President Ho Chi Minh's heritage, contributing to connecting the relic with the community, raising community awareness in preserving and promoting heritage values, and at the same time associated with tourism development.
Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Thua Thien-Hue province, said that the Duong No village festival was held for the first time in the village where President Ho Chi Minh lived and studied during his childhood from 1898 to 1900. In the future, this will be an annual festival held on the occasion of his birthday, May 19, to commemorate and express gratitude for President Ho Chi Minh's contributions and sacrifices to the country and the people, as well as the deep affection of the people of Thua Thien-Hue for beloved Uncle Ho.
"If Nghe An is his hometown, where he was born and lived his first years, then Thua Thien-Hue is where he grew up, went to school, matured and participated in patriotic activities in the early years of the 20th century. Duong No village has become an indispensable place in his memory in Thua Thien-Hue. The names of places and villages such as Dinh Lang, Am Ba, Ben Da, the house where he lived and started studying have been deeply engraved in his mind during his lifetime, and today have become invaluable heritages of the people of Hue," said Mr. Phan Thanh Hai.
Duong No village festival opened on the evening of May 16, with an art program themed Duong No - May Journey - Ho Chi Minh - Forever Faith with art performances of singing and dancing praising the Party, Uncle Ho, and the belief in the beautiful and prosperous development of the homeland performed by actors and artists from art troupes in Hue.
