The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) received information from Bach Mai Hospital about 05 cases being treated for methanol poisoning, including 01 case from Thai Nguyen and 04 cases from Hanoi who drank the same type of alcohol.

The Food Safety Department issued Official Dispatch No. 1772/ATTP-NDTT dated July 24, 2024 requesting the Hanoi Department of Health and the Thai Nguyen Provincial Department of Health to urgently implement the following contents:
Thai Nguyen Department of Health in coordination with Thai Nguyen Department of Industry and Trade immediately stopped the circulation of alcohol products suspected of causing poisoning and local authorities conducted a thorough investigation of the origin of alcohol products suspected of causing poisoning in the above case, detected and strictly handled violations of food safety according to regulations (if any).
Hanoi Department of Health coordinates with Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade to investigate and prevent the use and circulation of the above mentioned alcohol products in the area.

Coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and local authorities to strengthen inspection, examination and supervision of food safety for alcohol production and trading establishments, focusing on small-scale alcohol production and trading establishments, especially craft alcohol brewing establishments; promptly prevent unsafely produced and mixed alcohol, alcohol of unknown origin, and alcohol without labels that pose a risk to consumers' health from being circulated on the market.
Strengthen information, communication and guidance for people to raise awareness and responsibility for ensuring food safety in alcohol production and trading, not to abuse alcohol and ensure safety when choosing and using alcohol; absolutely do not use strange animals and plants of unknown species and origin to soak in alcohol, do not drink alcohol of unknown origin or without labels sold on the market.
Hanoi: Administrative sanctions against 18 non-public medical and pharmaceutical establishments and food safety violations
The Health Department Inspectorate has issued 18 decisions to sanction administrative violations against 10 private medical and pharmaceutical establishments and 8 establishments in the field of food safety.
AS Pharma Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (house number 3, Gau hamlet, Tan Phong 3 village, Phong Van commune, Ba Vi district) was fined 4 million VND for not posting wholesale prices at the drug sales location of the pharmaceutical business establishment.
Private pharmacy 24h (No. 140A Ngo Quyen, Group 14, Quang Trung Ward, Ha Dong District) was fined 5 million VND and Ruby Pharmacy (No. 7 Yen Son Area, Chuc Son Town, Chuong My) was fined 7.5 million VND for not submitting a request for periodic assessment of maintaining compliance with good retail pharmacy practices as prescribed by law.
Four companies were fined VND15 million for failing to keep documents and records related to the batch of drugs within the required retention period as prescribed by law. They are Cali-US Pharmaceutical Company Limited (No. 44, Alley 252, Kham Thien Market Street, Trung Phung Ward, Dong Da District); Midu MenaQ7 Joint Stock Company (No. 7, Sa Doi Street, Dai Mo Ward, Nam Tu Liem District); 3H Vietnam Investment Trading Company Limited (No. 181, Xa Dan 2 Alley, Nam Dong Ward, Dong Da District); AC Pharma Company Limited (No. 7 B5, Dam Trau Urban Area, Bach Dang Ward, Hai Ba Trung District).
Hoang Gia Diamond business household (3rd and 4th floors, lot 76-77 TTC, residential area 319, group 10, Hong Tien, Bo De ward, Long Bien district) was fined 35 million VND and forced to remove and delete advertising content for advertising medical examination and treatment services without a business license.
Hanoi Branch - Hiep Bach Nien Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (No. 1, Lane 192 Thai Thinh, Lang Ha Ward, Dong Da District) was fined 45 million VND for advertising drugs without having the content confirmed by a competent state agency before advertising according to regulations; at the same time, forced to remove, dismantle, and delete incorrect advertisements on the company's website.
Long Sen Comprehensive Health and Beauty Medical Company Limited (Team 4, Thang Dau Village, Hoa Thach Commune, Quoc Oai District) was fined 106 million VND and had its Practice Certificate revoked for 2 months; and its Operating License revoked for 4 months. The reason is that the unit provided medical examination and treatment services beyond the scope of expertise stated in the operating license; did not ensure one of the following conditions after being granted an operating license; did not report to the competent state agency in case of changing practitioners as prescribed by law.
Kids Plaza Vietnam Joint Stock Company (No. 20 Thai Thinh, Nga Tu So Ward, Dong Da District) was fined 12 million VND for not having separate arrangements according to the law for storage of raw materials, finished products, preliminary processing, processing, packaging, toilets, hand washing, changing protective clothing and related auxiliary areas.
Six establishments producing purified drinking water and bottled drinking water that self-declared products with microbiological indicators not in accordance with technical regulation No. 6-1: 2010/BYT dated June 2, 2010 of the Ministry of Health were fined 35 million VND each, suspended from operation for 2 months from July 18, 2024, and forced to recall and change the purpose of use of violating products that do not ensure food safety.
Kim Cuong Service Company Limited (No. 3, Lane 1160, Lang Street, Lang Thuong Ward, Dong Da District) manufactures Kim Cuong Instant Ice (NSX: June 12, 2024; Expiry date: 02 months from the date of manufacture; Specification: 5kg/bag) which is subject to self-declaration of products with microbiological indicators not in accordance with technical regulation No. 10:2011/BYT dated January 13, 2011 of the Ministry of Health - National technical regulation for instant ice; trading and circulating on the market food products (Kim Cuong Instant Ice (NSX: June 12, 2024; Expiry date: 02 months from the date of manufacture; Specification: 5kg/bag) not in accordance with the announced standards, the value of the violating batch consumed: VND 1,494,000.
The Health Department Inspectorate has imposed an administrative fine of over 37 million VND; suspended all production of instant ice for 02 months, starting from July 18, 2024; forced to destroy 01 instant ice bag from the production batch: Kim Cuong Instant Ice product (Manufacturer: June 12, 2024; Expiry date: 02 months from the date of manufacture; Specification: 5kg/bag) which does not ensure food safety.
Binh Phuoc: Investigating and handling suspected food poisoning case
On July 24, the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) issued Official Dispatch No. 1759/ATTP-NDTT to the Department of Health of Binh Phuoc province regarding the investigation and handling of suspected food poisoning cases.
The Food Safety Department has received information about a suspected food poisoning incident at Pin Yuan Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Nam Dong Phu Industrial Park, Dong Phu District, Binh Phuoc Province), in which more than 60 people were infected and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
The Food Safety Department requested the Binh Phuoc Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct hospitals with patients being treated to focus resources on actively treating patients, not to affect their health and lives. In case of necessity, it is possible to request support for professional consultation with higher-level hospitals.
The Food Safety Department also requested that localities conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the suspected poisoning according to regulations; and temporarily suspend the operation of the unit providing the meal suspected of causing the poisoning. If violations are discovered, they must strictly handle violations of food safety regulations and make the results public.
Strengthen propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions, strictly implement management of food ingredients' origin, three-step food inspection, food sample storage and hygiene in processing stages...
Strictly implement the contents of Official Dispatch No. 2487/BYT-ATTP dated May 11, 2024 and Official Dispatch No. 3113/BYT-ATTP dated June 7, 2024 of the Ministry of Health on preventing and handling food poisoning and strengthening food poisoning prevention and control.
