According to KCNA , on May 16, Chairman Kim Jong-un inspected the Non-Permanent Satellite Launch Preparation Committee to check the overall condition of the spy satellite and approve the "future action plan", a move signaling that the satellite launch may be imminent.
"After learning the details of the committee's work, the leader inspected the No. 1 military reconnaissance satellite, which is ready to be loaded into a rocket after undergoing a final overall inspection and space environment test," the news agency's English-language dispatch said.
According to the North Korean leader, the successful launch of the satellite is an "urgent requirement" in the prevailing security environment and a process of "strengthening the defense capability on a top priority basis."
He also said that the more the US and South Korea escalate confrontational moves against North Korea, "it will exercise its right to self-defense to deter it in a fairer, more direct and more powerful manner."
KCNA did not provide further details, including the date of the satellite launch.
Notably, according to the photos released by the agency about the inspection trip, North Korean President Kim Jong-un continued to bring his daughter Kim Ju-ae, about 9-10 years old, along.
Kim Ju-ae, believed to be Mr Kim's second daughter, first appeared on KCNA late last year when she accompanied her father to inspect an intercontinental ballistic missile test.
Since then, the girl has continued to be taken by Mr. Kim to meet military scientists, test ballistic missiles and participate in many other events.
