North Korea has vowed to strengthen its nuclear forces and said the US denuclearization proposal is outdated.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on February 18 published a new announcement from the North Korean Foreign Ministry in response to the recent joint statement of South Korea, the United States, and Japan on the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

In the announcement, North Korea stressed that it will resolutely follow its plan to strengthen its nuclear force and prevent the US and its allies from threatening it with political and military tools.

"The US is pursuing an outdated and absurd denuclearization plan that is increasingly becoming impossible both theoretically and practically at the present time," Pyongyang said.

Calling the above goal short-sighted, North Korea believes that the US has not yet awakened from its old failed dream of denuclearization.

South Korea's foreign ministry said last week's talks between the foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan sent a strong warning to North Korea's provocations and underscored the three countries' commitment to strengthening international sanctions on Pyongyang, according to Yonhap.

In response, the North Korean Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern and accused the three countries of fomenting collective confrontation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region. North Korea warned that it would respond firmly and decisively to provocations and threats.

"As long as the hostile threat of the US and its vassal forces exists, the DPRK's nuclear weapons will remain a means of defending peace and sovereignty and a legitimate means of self-defense," Pyongyang declared.

During US President Donald Trump's first term (2017-2021), North Korea suspended missile launches and nuclear tests to engage in dialogue. However, Pyongyang later resumed missile tests and amended its constitution to emphasize strengthening and expanding its nuclear forces.
