At least 18 people were killed and 32 injured when a bus carrying a group of community study tour participants overturned due to brake failure in Prachin Buri province (Thailand) on February 26, the Bangkok Post reported.
Initial reports said the vehicle plunged into a ditch on a steep hillside in Nadi district. The Prachin Buri Provincial Traffic Safety Center said the accident occurred at around 3:20 a.m. on Highway 304 when the driver lost control while going downhill.
Media reports said 17 people died at the scene, while another died in hospital. Of the 32 injured, 19 were taken to Nadi District Hospital and 13 to Kabin Buri District Hospital.
The crashed vehicle was the last in a convoy of three vehicles carrying more than 200 people on a five-day study tour of the Community Waste Bank Development Project in Rayong province, organized by the Phon Charoen district government in Bueng Kan province.

The bus was carrying 47 passengers and two drivers. A passenger told The Nation he woke up when the accident happened and everyone in the bus was thrown all over the place. They were all neighbors, he said.
Tractor driver Chayapol Sophakul said he was driving behind the crashed bus so he stopped to help with the rescue and discovered dozens of injured people.
Reuters quoted Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra as expressing condolences to the victims' families and saying that authorities were investigating the incident.
