At major supermarket chains in Ho Chi Minh City such as Co.opmart, Satra, Lotte, Emart, etc., goods for the peak shopping season at the end of the year and during the Lunar New Year are stocked on shelves at preferential prices, with purchasing power only increasing slightly compared to the previous month. To stimulate purchasing power, retail businesses have also deeply discounted many items, focusing on products with high consumption during the Tet holiday such as pork, ham, sausage, etc.
At the Co.opmart supermarket system, prices are being reduced by 15-20% for pork chops, lean thighs, lean shoulders, etc. Emart supermarkets are also reducing prices by 18-37% for some types of pork. Even the GO!, Big C, Tops Market supermarket chains belonging to Central Retail Vietnam are organizing a pork festival. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van - Communications Director of Central Retail Group in Vietnam, the program aims to accompany consumers during the difficult economic period, as well as join hands to stabilize the market of essential goods during the Lunar New Year.
"We expect to fully meet the demand for essential pork, best serving people's shopping needs during Tet," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van.
From now until Lunar New Year, businesses in Ho Chi Minh City will carry out many promotional programs, focusing on Tet products such as soft drinks, cakes, candies, jams, clothes... with discounts from 10-50%.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, there are currently 45 enterprises participating in the supply and distribution of essential food and foodstuffs for Tet. The enterprises have signed cooperation agreements with production facilities and enterprises in 50 provinces and cities nationwide to prepare goods for the biggest shopping peak.
In the days leading up to Tet, businesses are ready to increase their product volume by 2-3 times compared to normal days. At the same time, they have plans to extend operating hours to meet the sudden increase in consumer demand.
Commenting on the business situation in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade - said that currently, the source of goods has been prepared abundantly, and the contracts between businesses and suppliers are guaranteed. However, the most worrying thing now is low purchasing power. The reason for this situation is that consumers tend to tighten spending. In addition, many restaurant, hotel, and collective kitchen systems are facing difficulties because many businesses have closed and workers have temporarily returned to their hometowns.
