Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association develops with the country

(NLDO) - After 35 years of establishment and development, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association now has 8,300 lawyers, including 400 masters and 40 doctors.

On December 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association held a ceremony to celebrate its 35th anniversary. Attending the ceremony were Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Mr. Do Ngoc Thinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Bar Federation, and representatives of Ho Chi Minh City agencies and departments.

After 35 years of establishment and development, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association now has 8,300 lawyers working in more than 2,000 practicing organizations and 650 lawyers practicing as individuals.

The number of lawyers accounts for 40% of the total number of lawyers in the country. Currently, the Association has 400 masters and 40 doctors. The team of lawyers in Ho Chi Minh City is trained in a variety of ways, from many sources at home and abroad.

Some lawyers are able to participate in resolving international disputes, are members of foreign bar associations or international arbitration organizations.

At the Anniversary Ceremony, lawyer Nguyen Van Trung, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, said that throughout its activities, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association has always received close attention and direction from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and People's Committee.

In addition, the delegation also received timely support and coordination from the Vietnam Bar Federation and other functional agencies. "The team of lawyers in Ho Chi Minh City is always ready to step into the era of national development, actively contributing to building a civilized, modern and humane Ho Chi Minh City" - said lawyer Trung.

Standing Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai awarded commemorative medals to lawyers who are leaders and former leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association.

"To promote the role of the team of lawyers and law practice organizations in the area, the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City have issued many documents directing, guiding and orienting the development of lawyers' careers as well as creating conditions for the Union to develop and perfect its organizational structure. In recent years, the Union has always had positive changes, improving the management and operation efficiency of the Executive Board, the reward and discipline council" - Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai emphasized.

In addition to the achievements, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee pointed out the shortcomings that need to be overcome. Specifically, lawyers still face some difficulties in participating in litigation activities; the rate of cases with lawyers participating in litigation is still low compared to the total number of cases in the city.

Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai noted that the quality of law practice is not commensurate with the requirements of the legal services market in Ho Chi Minh City; the professional qualifications and practice skills of some lawyers are still limited. At the same time, although the rate is very small, there are still cases of lawyers violating the law, violating ethics and professional conduct.

From there, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai requested that in the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association needs to have solutions to overcome existing shortcomings and limitations to join the whole country in the era of national development.
