16 years ago, for the first time, Dien Quang commune organized the Thanh Minh Festival. There are 97 clans here, with more than 70 clan temples, 10 villages living together arranged like a chessboard.
The festival includes a procession of palanquins from the clans to the common worship area, incense offering, candle lighting at the martyrs' cemetery and traditional rituals to commemorate the merits of the ancestors who reclaimed the land, to show gratitude to generations of heroic martyrs, and to pray for favorable weather and bountiful crops.
Guide the clans to preserve good cultural identity, family traditions, promote solidarity. The festival includes many activities such as traditional boat racing, performing arts, singing Bai Choi, cuisine... Every year, the Thanh Minh Festival is held on the occasion of Thanh Minh, attracting a large number of people from all over the country, including those from abroad.
According to Mr. Ha Van Minh - Chairman of Dien Quang Commune People's Committee, Thanh Minh Festival is a typical activity in the movement "All people unite to build a new cultural life" in Dien Quang which is increasingly going into depth. Every year, the whole commune has more than 95% "Cultural families"; 5/6 villages have achieved "Cultural Village" for 9 consecutive years or more.
Up to now, 6/6 villages have installed outdoor sports equipment. Dien Quang commune also installed sports equipment in the commune center and in Bao An communal house park. Cultural, artistic and sports movements are organized regularly.
Mr. Ha Van Minh said that the planning, construction, management and protection of revolutionary historical and cultural relics are given attention by the locality. Present in the area, the martyrs' cemetery and 8 relics (1 national historical and cultural relic and 7 provincial historical and cultural relics) have been built, restored and have electricity to light up at night.
The commune mobilizes people, students, and organizations to regularly clean and plant flowers and ornamental plants in the areas to promote the value of the relic.
Clans build a model of "Cultural Clan" to educate and motivate their children to comply with the Party's policies and the State's laws; focus on promoting education, talent, and fighting against social evils. Cultural families, cultural villages, and cultural clans create spiritual strength and become the driving force for Dien Quang commune to maintain the title of "New Rural Cultural Commune" for 12 consecutive years (2012 - 2023).
