This is the information shared by a representative of Fukushima province at a tourism seminar organized by the Fukushima Provincial Tourism Exchange Bureau on the afternoon of April 13 in Japan.

To stimulate the travel demand of domestic and international visitors through Fukushima airport in particular and this locality in general, a subsidy policy is implemented with the hope of welcoming more international visitors, including Vietnamese visitors.

Accordingly, the 2024 sponsorship level for travel companies and airlines when bringing international visitors, including Vietnamese visitors, is up to 18,000 yen/guest (nearly 3 million VND).

The conditions of this stimulus policy are that tourists must use a round-trip flight at Fukushima airport, stay 2 nights or more in the prefecture, and use a bus company with headquarters or offices in the prefecture.

A traditional art performance was performed for the Vietnamese delegation on the afternoon of April 13.

Notably, this stimulus policy also applies to travel companies and airlines bringing Japanese tourists to Vietnam. The maximum subsidy is 14,000 yen/passenger when flying round-trip via Fukushima airport.

At the workshop, issues related to radiation safety standards for tourists were also mentioned. Mr. Sakamoto Keiichi, Director of the Fukushima Airport Exchange Department of the Tourism Exchange Department, said that since the double disaster of earthquake, tsunami and radiation leak at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (in 2011), Fukushima has been measuring radiation every hour.

"Currently, radiation-related parameters show that our destination is safe and ready to welcome domestic and international tourists. The numbers related to radiation standards are Japanese standards and are stricter than international standards," Mr. Sakamoto Keiichi affirmed.

Fukushima is the third largest prefecture in Japan. Statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) show that before the COVID-19 pandemic, Fukushima was the locality with the largest number of Vietnamese residents in the northeastern region of the country. 13 years after the double disaster of earthquake, tsunami and radiation leak at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (2011) that claimed the lives of about 20,000 people, Fukushima is strongly recovering.

Among them, this place has become a prominent tourist destination in Japan, attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

Since 2013, the Noi Bai - Fukushima charter flight has been organized. Up to now, there have been nearly 100 round-trip charter flights from Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. At this time, Fukushima is in the cherry blossom season and attracts many tourists to visit and experience.

According to JNTO, in the first two months of 2024, more than 104,000 Vietnamese tourists visited this destination, an increase of more than 40% over the same period in 2019 (before COVID-19).
