Candidates wait for their test time at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology exam site, morning session, June 10.

Nearly 7,000 candidates took the exam at 17 locations from Da Nang onwards. Of which, there were 10 exam locations in Hanoi, in addition to the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, there were also exam locations at 6 other universities and academies. Exam locations in other provinces included the University of Science and Technology under the University of Da Nang (Da Nang), Vinh University (Nghe An), Hong Duc University (Thanh Hoa), Nam Dinh University of Technical Education (Nam Dinh), Hung Yen University of Technical Education (Hung Yen), Maritime University (Hai Phong), and the Center for Testing and Education Quality Assurance under Thai Nguyen University (Thai Nguyen).

Candidates were divided into two shifts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In the morning, there were 4,816 candidates taking the exam, of whom 4,586 showed up; in the afternoon, there were 2,494 candidates registering for the exam, of whom 2,369 showed up. In total, 6,955 candidates took the exam, accounting for 95% of the total number of registered candidates.

At the end of the morning exam, some candidates at some exam sites (at exam sites outside Hanoi University of Science and Technology) reported that they were seated too close together, so one candidate could glance at another candidate's exam. In some exam rooms, candidates even chatted freely, while there were no surveillance cameras in the exam rooms. According to the candidates, although each candidate took a different exam, many of the questions were the same (in different question locations).

According to Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the exam organizing committee has received this feedback and has reminded the exam sites to take measures to strengthen supervision and prevent exchanges between candidates in the exam room. For the exam site that candidates have reported having computers placed too close together (Water Resources University), the exam will not be held this afternoon. However, in the next exam, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will require the installation of partitions at some exam sites, including the Water Resources University exam site.

However, Associate Professor Dien also affirmed that each student's exam questions are different, so any discussion, if it happens, will not bring any benefit to the candidates.

Digitize the entire exam process

According to Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien, after 4 years of organization, the thinking assessment exam has been improved in the direction of improving quality and creating convenience for candidates. This is shown in the fact that the total exam time for candidates is now 150 minutes, all exam operations are performed on computers. In addition, there are a series of options and methods for creating exam questions with questions following modern rules.

To enable a large number of candidates to take the exam on computers, Hanoi University of Science and Technology used an exam platform. The school itself also sought experts and found a company of FPT Group capable of meeting this requirement. The two sides spent 3 years researching and developing the solution.

The system applies Big data, AI, and Cloud technologies to support the construction of exam questions according to modern testing theory - the 2-parameter IRT model. The system also allows the digitization of the entire process from building a question bank, testing questions to registration, online payment, scheduling, and coordination with independent testing facilities to organize exams in a closed process.

All information about the candidates' exam status is displayed on the computer screen of the leader of the organizing committee of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology's thinking assessment exam.

In addition, the citizen identification card data authentication solution with chip connecting data of the Ministry of Public Security - FPT.IDCheck is integrated in authenticating candidate information with 100% accuracy. This model helps to significantly save costs in organizing and participating in exams, creating a positive experience and especially comprehensive classification and evaluation.

Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien said: "We have tested and evaluated this exam platform many times through trial exams, highly appreciating the quality of the questions as well as the quality of this exam platform. Personally, I am completely assured until today. In addition, the content must also be prepared very carefully to ensure the goal of classifying candidates, selecting those who can enter university for the entire system.

In designing the exam, experts as well as the school have changed the ratio of difficult and easy questions to meet two requirements: closely following the general education program and meeting the entrance requirements of universities.
