From February 16, the Vietnamese Puppetry Art Program - Spring Festival will officially be performed at Hoang Hon Town Beach, Phu Quoc, contributing to spreading the quintessence of Vietnam's intangible cultural heritage closer to Southern and international tourists.
For the first time in Vietnam, Vietnamese puppetry is performed at a water pavilion on the beach.
Telling stories about Vietnamese life, work, culture and beliefs to international tourists
Vietnamese Puppetry - Spring Festival will be performed completely free of charge, with a duration of 30 minutes, every day from 7:30 pm at Hoang Hon Town Beach. Especially after each performance, visitors will have the opportunity to experience puppetry, chat with excellent artists, to learn more about this unique performing art form.
The Spring Festival performance program is invested by Sun Group Corporation and directly performed by Vietnam Puppetry Theatre - the largest puppetry art center in the country, considered the leading bird of the Vietnamese puppetry industry. The program is also directly directed and produced by People's Artist Nguyen Tien Dung - Director of Vietnam Puppetry Theatre.
The Spring Festival is designed and staged to tell the story of the quintessence of life, labor, and beliefs of the Vietnamese people to domestic and international tourists. That is reflected in the name of the show, "Spring Festival", a traditional cultural feature of the Vietnamese people every spring, coinciding with the time the show debuted.
Performed by the elite generations and even the very young artists of the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, the 8 performances will take the audience into the endless flow of Vietnamese culture, where they can discover the beauty of spring festivals, the life of agricultural production, Vietnamese spiritual culture and beliefs, or the image of the conical hat metaphorically resembling the moonlight, the boat on the waves, to see a culture rich in identity, vibrant and rich.
The Vietnamese Puppetry Show in Phu Quoc is a unique blend of traditional and contemporary features, creating something new, attractive, yet still close and familiar. People's Artist Nguyen Tien Dung revealed that the Spring Festival will combine many different types of art and performance such as dry puppetry, water puppetry, and dance. The musical performance will also introduce visitors to other stage arts such as Cheo singing and Chau Van singing. In particular, the final performance Xin Chao Viet Nam will be newly harmonized with flute, erhu, bau, tranh, which are 4 traditional musical instruments combined with Ao Dai and Non La dancing.
As a unique art form only found in Vietnam with a unique water stage, water puppetry is an art form imbued with the nuances and soul of the Vietnamese people.
Bringing traditional culture into tourism products
One of the unique features of the Spring Festival is the water theater designed to recreate the water theater of Thay Pagoda, the most ancient pagoda in Hanoi and also the ancestor of Vietnamese water puppetry. A relic of Ly Dynasty architecture and art is recreated, which will be a highlight in the modern, vibrant, poetic picture of Hoang Hon Town or also the "village in the city" according to the close association of People's Artist Tien Dung.
It is no coincidence that Sunset Town was chosen as the next performance destination of the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, of the passionate artists who have brought Vietnam's intangible cultural heritage - Vietnamese puppetry to 70 countries and territories around the world.
"Right from the first conversations, we felt the same with Sun Group Corporation, the desire to bring traditional culture into tourism products. The artists at the theater and I found it really interesting to perform at Hoang Hon Town, which gathers many other art forms as well as a large number of international tourists to introduce Vietnam's oldest and unique performing art - puppetry. We want to bring tourists of all nationalities and ages to learn more about the country and people of Vietnam. In particular, we Vietnamese people can also see our ancestors there, understand more about the value of traditional cultural art, and be proud of our international friends," Mr. Dung shared.
