On October 10, at the Government Guest House, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to Vietnam from October 10-11.
Minister Bui Thanh Son welcomed the visit of Minister Kamikawa Yoko in the year of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations; thanked Ms. Kamikawa Yoko in different positions for always paying attention to and supporting the Vietnam-Japan relationship.
Emphasizing the significance of choosing Vietnam as one of the first countries to visit after taking office as Foreign Minister (September 13, 2023), Ms. Kamikawa Yoko affirmed that Japan attaches importance to and wishes to promote the development of the bilateral relationship more strongly and substantially in all fields; and suggested that the two sides continue to promote the deepening of the Vietnam-Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership.
The two sides reviewed the outstanding achievements of bilateral relations over the past 50 years and expressed their joy at the remarkable developments in all fields; had open and substantive discussions on directions and measures to maintain the momentum of development of relations and further promote bilateral relations in the new period with new heights.
The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate to promote high-level exchanges and contacts, first of all, visits by senior leaders of the two countries in the year celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The two sides agreed to continue to focus on promoting economic cooperation, local cooperation, people-to-people exchange and cooperation in new fields.
Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed promoting and effectively implementing new-generation ODA for large-scale strategic infrastructure development projects in Vietnam; Japan supporting Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the global value chain with Japanese partners.
Minister Bui Thanh Son also proposed that Japan take measures to facilitate and simplify procedures for granting visas to Vietnamese citizens, such as considering: including Vietnam in the list of countries eligible for electronic visas; granting long-term visas (5-10 years) to Vietnamese people who have entered Japan many times and have not violated the law; and gradually moving towards visa exemption for Vietnamese citizens.

The Japanese Foreign Minister affirmed that he will increase support for Vietnam to realize its long-term strategic goals and vision for 2030-2045, focusing on four key areas.
One is to revive ODA cooperation, focusing on strategic infrastructure development.
Second , expand investment and trade cooperation. Japan considers Vietnam an important market and partner with great potential, and hopes that Vietnam will continue to improve its investment environment, creating new attraction for Japanese investors.
Third , cooperation in new fields such as digital transformation and green energy; Fourth , cooperation in the field of training high-quality human resources.
Appreciating the role and positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Japan, Minister Kamikawa Yoko also wished to enhance people-to-people exchanges and said that she would actively consider facilitating Vietnamese citizens' entry into Japan.
The two sides also discussed recent notable regional and international situations; affirmed close coordination to contribute to regional peace and stability; and continued to support each other at multilateral forums and international organizations.
