According to statistics from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri, livestock production in the first 6 months of 2024 continued to maintain growth momentum, with the total livestock herd increasing compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, the buffalo herd was nearly 21,400, up 3.1%; the cow herd was 62,680, up 1.03%; the pig herd was 239,273, down 1.82%; the poultry herd was more than 4 million, up 5.78%. The total output of fresh meat for slaughter is estimated at 31,000 tons, up 4.55% over the same period in 2023.

Livestock farming methods continue to develop towards industrial farms, applying high technology and bio-safety. The province currently has 697 livestock and poultry farms; of which 23 are large-scale farms, 209 are medium-scale farms, and 465 are small-scale farms.
In particular, the province currently has 135 high-tech livestock farms, linked with businesses. Industrial and semi-industrial livestock models applying technical advances such as: new high-yield breeds; closed barns, automated feeding, drinking water, disinfection, etc. continue to be widely applied. Notably, the total herd of pigs raised on farms accounts for 57% of the total herd of pigs in the province.
According to the plan, in the last 6 months of 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to closely coordinate with localities in mobilizing and effectively integrating resources, promoting innovation in production organization methods to restore, stabilize and develop livestock production.
Strive to achieve a growth rate of 3% - 4% in the livestock sector. Reorganize production, promote livestock planning, and transform livestock breed structure. At the same time, proactively and strictly implement measures to prevent and control livestock diseases, especially African swine fever.
