In early December 2024, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Hanoi City Police received a report from a victim who had been robbed of more than 9 billion VND while investing in virtual currency.
Through the social network Facebook, Ms. T. (residing in Hanoi) made friends and chatted with the account "Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung". After a while, the above subject invited Ms. T. to participate in investing in virtual currency through the website: https://www.mcprimetrusted.com...
Ms. T. followed the instructions, created an account and transferred money to invest. With attractive advertising, Ms. T. deposited 5 billion VND to receive 350,000 USDT (equivalent to 9 billion VND). When Ms. T. wanted to withdraw the above interest, the subjects required her to pay an additional 20% of the total account balance, equivalent to 1.8 billion VND (within 5 hours); pay 15% of the deposit insurance purchase, equivalent to 1.6 billion VND and pay an additional 3%, equivalent to 360 million VND in fees to quickly transfer the money to her personal account.
Ms. T. continued to deposit 1.2 billion VND but still could not withdraw it. Realizing that she had been scammed, Ms. T. went to the police station to report.
Hanoi City Police recommend that people be vigilant when participating in virtual currency exchanges.
Recently, Hanoi City Police have cracked down on many fraudulent trading floors that appropriated people's assets, typically the trading floors led by TikToker Mr Pips (Pho Duc Nam), seizing and freezing assets estimated at more than 5,200 billion VND.
However, there are still many exchanges that advertise and introduce high interest rates, commit to paying large profits, and attract many investors to participate in order to appropriate money.
To prevent fraud, Hanoi City Police advise people to be vigilant and not to invest or trade on virtual currency exchanges, digital currencies, websites, and virtual currency investment applications. In particular, advertising platforms that promise high profits or attractive investment opportunities to appropriate victims' assets.
Investing in websites, applications, and virtual currency exchanges poses many risks for investors because virtual currency is not recognized by Vietnamese law.
If a case of fraud is discovered, people need to immediately report it to the police for quick verification, prevention and handling.
