The afternoon class on September 13 of the 4B class of Ninh My Primary School (Hoa Lu) became more special because they spent time preparing meaningful gifts for students in flood-affected areas.

In the classroom, brand new notebooks, old textbooks that are still intact and carefully covered, pens, old school bags, sandals… are carefully packed by the students with their teachers. Along with that are handwritten letters sent to the children who are facing many difficulties and disasters due to the floods.

Le Hai Nam, a student of class 4B, shared: Every year, the parents of my class often prepare candy and toys to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in class, which is very fun and meaningful. But this year, due to the flood situation in the northern mountainous provinces, we saw many children whose houses were swept away by the flood, their schools were flooded, and their books were all washed away, so we felt very sorry for them and wanted to share with them. Although it is a bit sad not to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in class, I think that the gifts prepared by class 4B will help students in flooded areas return to school soon...

Many classes at Ninh My Primary School are also launching a campaign to collect books, notebooks, and school supplies to support students in flood-affected areas in accordance with the Department of Education and Training’s Official Dispatch. In addition to their backpacks, many students have brought along books, old clothes, school bags, milk, instant noodles, etc. to contribute to the gifts sent to students in flood-affected areas.

However, for class 4B, right from the time of monitoring the flood situation that severely affected the lives of people in the province and the northern mountainous provinces, the class's Parents' Association quickly agreed to transfer all the money that parents donated to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for their children in class to buy supplies, books, and pens to support students in the flood-affected areas.

Ms. Pham Thi Trang, Head of the Parents' Association of Class 4B, said: Every year, half a month before the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Parents' Association of the class discusses and plans to organize a Mid-Autumn Festival for the children. In the face of the complicated situation of storms and floods, causing serious damage to people and property in many northern mountainous provinces, we, the parents, sympathize and share the same thought of not organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival as every year, but instead using all the donated funds of nearly 2 million VND to buy books and pens to send to students in flooded areas.

The happiest thing is that not only did the parents agree and highly agree, but the students also expressed their agreement, preparing old textbooks, old clothes, shoes, etc. to bring to class to contribute to the gifts given to students facing difficulties due to the floods.

Through this work, we parents feel that we have contributed to spreading our children's sharing with those in difficult circumstances, educating them to love and help students in flood-affected areas with practical and meaningful work...

Giving meaningful Mid-Autumn gifts to students in flood-affected areas
Each letter was written by 4B students and sent along with gifts to encourage and share with students in flood-affected areas.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching. Unlike every year, residential areas in the province are bustling with activities to prepare children for a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival. Currently, many villages, hamlets, and streets have paid attention and taken care to organize fun Mid-Autumn Festival activities in 2024 for children and teenagers in accordance with the actual situation.

Mr. Vu Dinh Hien, Head of Khanh Minh Residential Group (Ninh Khanh Ward, Ninh Binh City) said: Khanh Minh Street has 8 self-governing groups with 370 households. In recent days, responding to the call for support for flood victims of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at all levels, the street has had practical activities, calling on and mobilizing cadres, party members, people and businesses in the area to participate in support.

On Khanh Minh street, self-management group No. 3 decided to stop organizing a food festival on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival to save all the money prepared for the festival, 4.5 million VND, to send to the street to support flood victims.

This is an action that is supported by the people and the self-management group also agreed to maintain meetings, awarding prizes, and candy parties so that the children can still celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, but also understood the need to share and help students in flood-hit areas who are facing many difficulties and cannot go to school...

In Khanh Minh Street, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival will not have all the activities of a feast, entertainment, etc. like every year. The Street will hold a meeting at the Street Cultural House to encourage and award students who have achieved academic success. Through this, it will also help children understand the reasons for the change in the way the Mid-Autumn Festival is organized this year, and share with those who are facing difficult circumstances due to floods.

In the current context, many provinces and cities are focusing on overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm, including the localities of Ninh Binh province. The Provincial People's Committee has issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches, sectors, organizations and People's Committees of districts and cities to pay attention to and take care of organizing Mid-Autumn Festival activities in 2024 in a suitable manner on the basis of ensuring safety, economy, substance, and no ostentation or formality. In particular, in places affected by floods, inundation, and natural disasters after the storm, absolutely do not organize events that gather a large number of children and people, or are unsafe at the event venue that is at risk of being affected by natural disasters and floods.

In addition, programs, activities, events, and Mid-Autumn Festivals need to be shortened and reduced in terms of performances. On the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival activities, strengthen the education of the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and "helping each other" for children; mobilize sharing, donations, and support from children, families, and the community so that children affected by storms and floods can return to school soon and stabilize their lives.
