Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Director of Dak Nong Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that the unit has coordinated with Dak Mil and Krong No districts to check the drought and water shortage situation for agricultural production.
Through inspection, these two areas have entered the peak of drought and a total of more than 2,000 hectares of crops are at risk of being seriously affected by water shortage, mainly coffee and short-term crops.
In Dak Lao commune, Dak Mil district, about 470 hectares of crops are starting to lack water. The water source at Dak Sor stream, the area bordering the two districts, is drying up, threatening 1,600 hectares of crops.
Faced with the above situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requested Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited to deploy a plan to pump and transfer water to fight drought for the two districts.
The company has pumped water from Doi 1 Lake to Lake 40 to supplement irrigation water for crops. The company has developed a plan to regulate water sources between irrigation works in Dak Mil and Dak Song to supplement water sources to Dak Sor stream.
According to Mr. Minh, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has requested the Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board to speed up the completion of the pumping station to transfer water from Doi 1 Lake to Lake 40, in order to increase the water supply capacity for drought-stricken areas.
The People's Committees of Dak Mil and Krong No districts are coordinating with relevant units to deploy solutions to combat drought, while at the same time propagating to raise people's awareness of saving and using water effectively.
