Constantly contributing youth to the homeland

Việt NamViệt Nam22/03/2025

In recent times, many young people of the "Gen Z" generation have made constant efforts, persevered in overcoming challenges, and asserted themselves with the desire to contribute their youth to their homeland Binh Dinh.

On the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2025), Binh Dinh Newspaper had a conversation with 3 young people with many outstanding achievements, including: Pham Huu Loc (born in 2007, grade 12 specializing in Physics, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Quy Nhon City); Tran Minh Hau (born in 2003, athlete of Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts Center); Nguyen Huy Hoang (born in 2004, student of Mathematics Pedagogy class K45, Quy Nhon University).

Dare to try, discover yourself

Not only did he leave his mark as an excellent student in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years; he won the runner-up prize at the 2023 National High School Debate Championship (amateur category), but Pham Huu Loc also demonstrated his ability in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) when he was one of 9 students nationwide to win the prize at the 2024 Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Competition (Young Talent Award). With a solid foundation, Loc aims to continue to develop and explore new potentials...

Hello, what interesting experiences and lessons did the journey to conquer the National High School Debate Championship and the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Competition 2024 bring you?

- These two competitions help me practice critical thinking and multi-dimensional analysis. At the Debate Championship, I learned how to approach problems from multiple perspectives, build strong arguments and debate effectively, and understand the importance of listening and respecting different opinions.

At the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Competition 2024, I had the opportunity to study more deeply about AI and its applications in life, especially its ability to support people in education, healthcare and communication. This experience helped me realize that AI is not a replacement for humans but a powerful tool to optimize performance and creativity.

With your achievements, what are your plans for the future and what do you think is the most important thing for a high school student to develop comprehensively?

- I plan to continue to challenge myself in higher-level debate competitions, possibly returning to the 2025 National High School Debate Championship in the open division, and at the same time, researching AI further to find ways to apply it in practice. The experiences from the competitions will help me feel more confident when entering the university environment and be ready to contribute more to the community.

In my opinion, the most important thing for a high school student to develop comprehensively is not to be good at everything but to dare to try and explore their own abilities. I used to not know what field I was passionate about, but thanks to actively participating in many activities, I gradually found the right direction.

More importantly, I think that instead of evaluating students based on their overall abilities, we need to create conditions for each student to maximize their potential in the field they love.

Martial arts is passion, victory is motivation

Tran Minh Hau is a promising face of Binh Dinh martial arts. With a series of impressive achievements: Silver medal at the 2023 National Traditional Martial Arts Club Championship, Silver medal at the 32nd SEA Games Kickboxing event, Silver medal at the 2024 National Traditional Martial Arts Championship, Silver medal at the 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championship... Hau is constantly striving to conquer new heights.

What brought you to martial arts? Why did you choose to pursue kickboxing…

- In 2018, when I was a secondary school student, I participated in the provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival with the athletics event. At that time, I met teacher Nguyen Quoc Tien (Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts Center). He realized that I had a physique suitable for martial arts, so he encouraged me to try it. At first, I came to traditional martial arts as a new experience, but the more I practiced, the more I was attracted by the effectiveness and discipline of this subject.

Later, I was taught more about kickboxing by Mr. Tran Dinh Do (Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts Center). The more I practiced, the more I realized that I was suited to the style of kickboxing that focuses on speed, flexibility, and physical endurance. This sport prioritizes quick reflexes and flexible tactics. That helped me maximize my strengths. So, I decided to pursue kickboxing.

During training and competition, there must be a “milestone” that you will always remember…

- Of course! (laughs). The most memorable moment for me was probably when I won the gold medal at the 2021 National Kickboxing Cup Championship, which took place right in Binh Dinh. That was the first time I competed in a major tournament right in my hometown as a young athlete.

The moment the referee announced the victory, I could not believe my ears. It was not only a gold medal but also a clear proof for me to believe in myself, giving me more motivation to pursue a professional path, because for me, martial arts is not only a passion but also a long journey with many challenges.

From that milestone, the desire to bring pride to my homeland, my family, and the teachers who guided me became even stronger. Currently, I am focusing on preparing for national tournaments or further, achieving good results at the 33rd SEA Games. I believe that with constant efforts, the dream of improving achievements in the international arena will not be too far away...

How to conquer math

In addition to the title of excellent student for two consecutive school years (2022 - 2023 and 2023 - 2024), Nguyen Huy Hoang also achieved high results in Mathematical Olympiads: First prize in Algebra, third prize in Analysis of the National Student Mathematical Olympiad in 2024; second prize in Algebra and Analysis of the National Student Mathematical Olympiad in 2023.... For Hoang, math is not only a subject but also a reliable companion on the journey to conquer knowledge.

When did Hoang start to love mathematics? What have you done to train your thinking - an element that this subject requires a lot of harshness?

- Since I was a child, I liked to find many different ways to solve a problem. If a problem had 2 or 3 approaches, I would try them all to see which one was the most effective. This gradually became a habit, helping me not only master knowledge but also practice logical thinking.

In addition, when participating in competitions, I have the opportunity to be exposed to many new types of problems, thereby expanding my thinking and knowing how to solve problems flexibly. In particular, when participating in the National Mathematical Olympiad, I have the opportunity to challenge myself with difficult problems that require creativity and deep thinking; to get to know and interact with friends who share the same passion, to exchange learning methods and explore new ways of solving problems.

Many students are afraid of math and think it is a difficult subject. What does Hoang think about this?

- I think most students are afraid of math because they don't have a suitable learning method. Many students have to study quickly and take extra classes continuously but don't have time to deeply understand the nature of the problems, the types of math, the rules... This makes math stressful instead of an interesting subject.

In my opinion, to learn math effectively, first of all, you need to adjust your mentality a little. Students need to be guided to see that math is not dry formulas but a logical thinking system that can be applied in real life. The most important thing is to build confidence. When you believe that you can do it, you will no longer be afraid of math.

Thank you! Wishing you good health and to keep the "flame" of passion burning, and to successfully conquer the goals ahead!
