Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just reported on the survey results and proposals of the Department of Culture and Sports of the province on the location to build Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum on the land (about 4.4 hectares) belonging to a part of the former Nha Trang Sao project, in the Hon Chong - Hon Do national relic area.

The province presented one thing, the department proposed another.

On the afternoon of March 13, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Dinh Van Thieu said, "The survey report and proposal mentioned above by the Department of Culture and Sports on the location to build Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum is only option 2.

Because up to now, the planning for the construction of the Provincial Museum is still in the Ocean Square area in the airport land", as in the project to adjust the general planning of Nha Trang city that the province is submitting to the Prime Minister for consideration.

However, according to Mr. Thieu, due to the current situation, it is not known when the land in the Nha Trang airport area will be handed over to implement the planning and build the Provincial Museum, so it is necessary to further survey option 2 as mentioned. Regarding the procedures, there are still many steps to report to the leadership agencies and the Provincial Party Committee for consideration.

According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa province, in order to carry out the tasks assigned by the province, the department has coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Construction, the Provincial Association of Architects, the People's Committee of Nha Trang City and the Office of the Provincial People's Committee to survey a number of locations to propose a new location for the construction of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum.

According to the survey results, for the locations at 28E Tran Phu (Vinh Nguyen ward) and at Nha Trang station (as previously proposed by the Department of Culture and Sports), the survey team both assessed it as "not feasible" to propose the construction of Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum.

Because up to now, the land procedures for the two areas mentioned above are still legally entangled and have not been handed over to the province.

As for the proposed location to build Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum (about 4.4 hectares) in the old Nha Trang Sao project area, according to the survey team's assessment, "it will promote the advantages of the location and the ability to effectively exploit the cultural institutions invested in and built here".

The proposed land for the construction of Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum is also located in the national scenic area of Nha Trang Bay, on the east side of Pham Van Dong Street in Vinh Tho Ward.

This is the area where the province previously allowed businesses to level to implement the Nha Trang Sao project (more than 10.35 hectares), but the project was later revoked.

The entire land of Nha Trang Sao project has been decided to be recovered by the Provincial People's Committee (from January 2019) and is being handed over to the Provincial Land Fund Development Center for management.

According to the dossier on "urban design ideas for the east side of Tran Phu - Pham Van Dong street", established by a consortium of two real estate and land investment companies under the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the old Nha Trang Sao project area is arranged as a "heritage park", with low construction density.

And that is "the land associated with the national relic complex of Hon Chong - Hon Do and the national scenic spot of Nha Trang Bay; nearby is the Ponagar Tower relic and later there will be the Yersin Museum (at the current guest house 378)".

Therefore, according to the proposal of the Department of Culture and Sports, the Provincial Museum built on the old Nha Trang Sao project land is "appropriate" and "will form a complete tourist center complex, creating a new, outstanding highlight of the province".

What will the current museum "golden land" do?

According to the report of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee (3rd time) submitted to the Prime Minister on the approval of the project to adjust the general planning of Nha Trang City until 2040, the area of Nha Trang airport adjacent to Tran Phu street (opposite Bai Duong and the old Ana Mandara area) is planned as "Ocean Square".

This square "integrates functions such as museum, exhibition, multi-purpose cultural services and hotel complex into a highlight complex at the end of the main axis of Nha Trang airport urban area".

It is noteworthy that in the report of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Culture and Sports of the province, there is no mention that if the proposal to arrange land to build Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum in the Hon Chong - Hon Do national scenic relic area is approved, then the current Provincial Museum land (at 16 Tran Phu Street) is considered a "golden land" in a prime location and the entire area of Nha Trang airport land that has been planned to build the museum will be used for what purpose?
