Despite winning the Best Debut Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, Coolie Never Cries is failing at the Vietnamese box office.

Last week there was a movie release on November 15, with many notable names such as Gladiator 2, The Day We Fell In Love, Coolie Never Cried, Laughing Across Borders, Ghost Rider, The Stuntman, Ozi: Jungle Quest, Rebel Princess: Royal Rescue Mission.

According to data of The Box Office Vietnam , Laughter Across Borders is leading the box office, earning 34.4 billion VND last weekend.

Second place is Red One: Red Code , only pocketed 3 billion VND in the past three days, bringing the total revenue to 16.8 billion VND after 10 days in theaters. Third place is Two school friends in love with 8.9 billion dong.

Coolies never cry grossed VND322 million from 245 screenings. The work that won the Best Debut Award at the Berlin Film Festival by director Pham Ngoc Lan is falling into a losing situation at the Vietnamese box office.

Laughter Across Borders box office fever

Laughter Across Borders sold 302,495 tickets out of 8,592 screenings last weekend, overwhelming nearly 10 times more than other competitors.

The film brings together a cast of box office guaranteed actors such as Ryu Seung Ryong, Jin Sun Kyu, Go Kyoung Pyo and Lee Soon Won.

The plot revolves around Jin Bong (Ryu Seung Ryong), a former national archery champion, now just an ordinary office worker after retiring.

Faced with the prospect of being fired, he is forced to take on the impossible mission of flying to the other side of the world in a desperate attempt to keep his job.

After a near-fatal accident, Ji Bong "landed" unwillingly in the Amazon forest, where he met the indigenous trio Sika, Eeba and Walbu - talented archers with outstanding skills.

Believing they are the key to saving him, Jin Bong teams up with Bbang Sik (Jin Sun Kyu), a clumsy but enthusiastic translator, to bring three archery warriors to Korea to carry out a daring plan.

Lynx: Possessed , Wicked Ariana Grande in theaters

Next weekend, Wicked, Lynx: Possessed, The Color of Emotion, Woodwalkers in theaters on November 22.

The film is inspired by the folk legend of “ghost possession” to build a plot revolving around a family working in porcelain inlay in Hue - a unique culture of the Nguyen Dynasty, addressing issues of class and male superiority over female.
