"Green Voice" provides opportunities for students nationwide, including individuals who have not yet mastered public speaking skills, according to MSc. Phan My Linh (Vietnam Debate Federation).
MSc. Phan My Linh is the co-founder of the Vietnam Debate Federation and a member of the Expert Council of the Green Voices competition organized by the Green Future Fund (Vingroup). She hopes that the values brought by the competition will become a premise to spread public speaking and debating skills to students across the country. Before the event, the female master gave many advantages and advice to the contestants before entering the fierce competition round.

- As one of the "pioneers" of debate in Vietnam, how do you evaluate the public speaking and debating skills of Vietnamese students today?
- The concept of debate only appeared in Vietnam about 7 years ago. At that time, it was very difficult to find students with the ability to debate. Over time, I see that this has gradually changed.
In recent years, many parents have noticed the positive impact of debate on students’ thinking and academic ability. Students are exposed to more sources of information, and therefore have the need to express themselves and speak up. Therefore, more and more parents are interested in and want to invest in their children learning debate early.
However, the story of "water flows to low places" still exists. Debating, especially in English, has only been developed in big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, Green Voice is contributing to solving this problem. Instead of setting up barriers like professional debate competitions and focusing on a certain area, the competition gives contestants nationwide the opportunity to speak up, supporting them to initially get acquainted with this field.

- According to you, what factors do students need to become a good speaker and debater?
- First, you need respect and trust from your parents and school. One problem that causes many debaters to stop is lack of support from their families. To develop their abilities from a young age, students need a family and learning environment that encourages them, allows them to speak, and respects what they say. That environment is a space for them to express their opinions and share.
In addition, students need to have the opportunity to access information from many different sources. We should build a starting point for them by sharing many sources of information, encouraging questioning and the desire to explore and discover. The opportunity to be exposed to new and diverse knowledge will help students have more multi-dimensional and objective perspectives, creating a foundation for critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- As a member of the Professional Council of "Green Voice", how do you feel about the organization process and the quality of the contestants?
- When I learned about Green Voice and was invited to take on the role of a member of the Expert Council, I was very happy that Vingroup Corporation and the Green Future Fund recognized the importance of public speaking and debate. I was impressed with the attention and investment the unit gave to the competition, awarding large total prizes.
From over 500 ideas in the Preliminary Round, we selected 122 individuals and teams from 70 schools in 32 provinces and cities across the country. This is proof that the competition has been successful in initially helping students approach and become familiar with public speaking and debating.

- What difference does the "Green Voice" contest bring to the young generation?
- Debate and eloquence competitions in Vietnam are currently organized very professionally and approaching world standards. However, this also creates many barriers for beginners.
I think that Green Voice is professionally organized and plays an important role in popularizing speaking and debating skills for students, which is something we have long desired. The organizers of the competition went directly to schools nationwide to give opportunities to students.
Through such meetings, students will receive a lot of support in spirit and time when teachers and schools understand the value of the competition. Teachers can also suggest and support students to complete the exam, at the same time, the school will recognize when students achieve high scores. Through the competition, teachers and schools will also see that public speaking and debating are a new trend.
In addition, candidates have the opportunity to meet and learn directly from leading Vietnamese and international experts in the field of environment and sustainable development.

In addition, Green Voice has open competition rules, not many difficulties and still adheres to international standards. The gap between contestants is not too large. The organizing committee does not focus on professional factors, confrontation, and competition to reduce pressure and help contestants participate in exchanges more easily. Even if they do not have strong skills, they still have a chance to win if they have good ideas.
- 122 individuals and teams will enter the Head-to-head round which will take place live in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. What advice do you have for them? students participate ?
- In the upcoming online seminar for candidates, I will guide you on how to prepare a presentation that meets the standards and is most informative. In addition, students will better understand the competition rules in the Confrontation round, the basic principles of rhetoric and debate, and know how their exam will be graded.
A special thing about this round is that many of you are participating in a debate competition for the first time, and you cannot help but feel nervous and scared when presenting in front of the judges and facing your opponents. Therefore, the discussion is an opportunity for me to share with you how to stay confident, relaxed, and focused to have an impressive performance and get good results.
