That is the sharing of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Sen, the candidate awarded the Special Prize at the Central Region Women's Entrepreneurship Competition and Second Prize at the National Competition in 2023.
Closing the 2023 Women's Startup Competition, the story of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Sen (Son Loc commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) left an emotional impression on many people.
She used to have a happy family and a peaceful life, but in 2019, her husband suddenly passed away abroad. The unexpected incident made her collapse, but it was the care of her family, friends, and colleagues that helped her realize that she had to stand up to take care of her family.
That was also the time when she learned about the Women's Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the Vietnam Women's Union. Participating in activities organized by the Union at all levels such as: training, coaching, practicing through the rounds..., Ms. Sen was determined to develop the project "Application of science and technology to raise medicinal microbial pigs in a controlled value chain".
Pork products fed with herbs: ginseng, pearl, turmeric, ginger... both provide safe food and help local people consume agricultural products, conquering the judges and she won the Special Prize from the Central Region Regional Competition and the Second Prize of the National Women's Entrepreneurship Competition in 2023.
Dramatic change
"It can be said that one year after receiving the award from the Women's Startup Competition, my life and work have changed 180 degrees," Ms. Hoai Sen confided.
"From a woman who only knew how to take care of her family, I have become a woman who knows how to do business, not only for myself but also to contribute to society and the community. But what makes me happiest is the spectacular changes in production and business.
The idea of making my herbal probiotic pig product has been around for a few years but I have not been able to build trust with customers. When I introduced the product, no one was interested; even when I gave it as a gift, many people did not accept it.
But after the Women's Startup Competition, thanks to the connections and introductions, creating conditions for me to participate in promotional events, product introductions... of Women's Unions at all levels from Central to local, my Startup Project became known to many people, customers came to order on their own.
Since then, my reputation has increased, and my products have been distributed to neighboring areas and further markets such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. Thanks to that, I have a stable and sustainable customer base. What is even more exciting is that my pork has been brought to many schools, and many children have access to safe food.
Recently, I have just signed a contract with Oxalis Tourism Company (the unit operating tourism services in Son Doong Cave, Quang Binh Province) so that in December 2024, they will bring my products to introduce to the world."
In addition to fresh and processed pork products such as spring rolls, sausages, ham, etc., Ms. Sen is researching additional seasoning products for adults, the elderly, and children.
"When I started my business, I thought the journey from idea to conquering the market would take about 10 years. Thanks to the Women's Startup Competition, that journey was shortened to just 1 year.
Through the competition, I received a lot of support to go faster and further. I want to send a message to female entrepreneurs, if you have an idea or project, try to overcome yourself to make your dream come true.
Don't worry too much, because on the way, we will receive companionship and practical support from the government, ministries, branches, units..., especially from the Women's Union at all levels," Ms. Hoai Sen emphasized.
