US chipmaker Qualcomm has just announced a list of Vietnamese startups that have entered the incubation round of the Qualcomm Vietnam Innovation Challenge 2024. Launched in December 2019, this is a program organized by this enterprise to search for and nurture startups in the technology sector in Vietnam.
The program has the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, aiming to develop the Vietnamese technology ecosystem, supporting small and medium enterprises to participate in designing 5G, IoT, artificial intelligence, smart city products...
Accordingly, a total of 10 Vietnamese startups have entered Qualcomm's incubation round. These startups include AirCity - Facial recognition device for access control; DeltaX - Affordable robot line; GoTrust - Self-service "Kiosk" for automated healthcare services; HSPTech - Anti-static real-time monitoring wearable device; VOXCool - IoT integrated cold battery; MET EV with smart electric vehicle products.
In addition, there are 4 startups with AI elements: Palexy - a company that uses AI to analyze data to optimize retail operations; Vbee - a conversational AI platform, focusing on the financial industry; Olli Technologies with smart home products and Realtime Robotics - the world's first AI-based multi-camera gimbal.
According to Qualcomm, these startups were selected based on a number of criteria, including technical capabilities, innovative products, and patentable technologies. In addition, there was also the factor of suitability with the national digital transformation process and Vietnam's fourth industrial revolution.
Startups will receive $10,000 in funding to continue developing their projects over the next six months while participating in the incubation phase. The program also includes technical support, business coaching, and intellectual property training.
Participating startups will also receive support for patent filing costs of up to $5,000. Qualcomm will hold the program finals in August 2024 to select three winning teams with a total cash prize of $225,000.
According to Mr. Thieu Phuong Nam, General Director of Qualcomm Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand, Vietnam is a key region to nurture innovative talent. Startups as well as small and medium enterprises will play an important role in promoting digital transformation and economic growth in Vietnam.
