On December 27, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) held a conference to study and disseminate the resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. The conference was held in person and online with the participation of 40,800 delegates at 855 locations nationwide.
According to President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union has set a target of having 15 million union members nationwide by the end of the 2028 term. This is a key task but also a huge challenge as the Trade Union Law allows the establishment of workers' organizations at enterprises in addition to grassroots trade unions. The Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will issue a specialized Resolution on this content to unify the will to act and complete the set goals. In addition, the Trade Union needs to innovate its activities, shifting its focus from the main task of caring to representing and protecting the rights of union members and workers.
Presenting the topic "Some major contents in the Resolution of the 13th Congress of Vietnam Trade Union", Vice President of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu said that the resolution sets the goal of innovating the organization and operation of trade unions, building a strong and comprehensive Vietnam Trade Union, focusing on performing well its functions and tasks, meeting the requirements of the new situation, focusing on representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers; actively and proactively participating in state management and socio-economic management.
The resolution sets a target of having 15 million union members nationwide by the end of the term, establishing grassroots organizations in 100% of enterprises with 25 or more employees; at least 83% of enterprises and units with qualified union organizations according to the law are allowed to negotiate and sign collective labor agreements according to the law; striving for 90% or more of labor cases filed in court to be supported by the union, participating in litigation and protection when union members request.
