Police of 7 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region have signed a cooperation agreement to combat illegal sand mining.
On the afternoon of December 12, in Soc Trang province, the police of 7 provinces and cities including Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Can Tho city held a conference to sign a coordination agreement to prevent and combat crimes and violations of the law related to sand mining; transportation and supply as construction materials for key national projects.
Police leaders of 7 provinces and cities signed a cooperation agreement.
Currently, in the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta region, many key national projects and works are being implemented, with a huge demand for landfill materials.
Soc Trang province currently has three sea sand mines licensed under a special mechanism of the National Assembly and has large sand reserves.
Due to the increasingly scarce supply of raw materials and the high price of construction materials, there is a potential risk of crime and law violations in mineral activities, leading to environmental pollution, loss of resources, tax evasion, and loss of security and order in localities.
Implementing the direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the police of the above provinces and cities developed a plan to coordinate in preventing and combating crimes and violations of the law related to sand mining activities in Soc Trang province.
The police of the provinces and cities will exchange information on the situation of sand exploitation in Soc Trang province, the transportation and supply of construction materials for projects. Accordingly, professional measures will be deployed to promptly detect, combat and handle violations of the law related to the exploitation, transportation and supply of sand for the construction of key national projects in the provinces and cities.
In addition, strengthen propaganda work, raise awareness of strict compliance with legal regulations related to sand mining and transportation activities.
Colonel Bui Quoc Khanh, Director of Soc Trang Provincial Police, requested that the police of provinces and cities strictly implement the contents of the proposed plan.
In coordination, it is necessary to comply with the provisions of law and the direction of the Ministry of Public Security, in order to effectively prevent and combat crimes and violations of the law related to the exploitation, transportation and consumption of sea sand.
