Broken rice, banh tet, banh chung and many other Vietnamese dishes have been honored by the famous culinary website Taste Atlas to be included in the list of "the best rice dishes in Southeast Asia".
Holding the second position on the list, broken rice is introduced as a "traditional Vietnamese dish" with the main ingredient being broken rice, a type of rice that breaks during the production process.
Previously, broken rice was only popular in the rural areas of the Mekong Delta. Now this dish is widely loved by locals and tourists and is considered a part of “Saigon culture”.
Previously, broken rice was also honored to be included in the list of 100 most attractive street foods in the world announced by Taste Atlas in May.
Banh beo, a Vietnamese rice flour dish, ranked 14th. This is a popular steamed cake filled with shrimp and pork and served with fish sauce. Diners can add roasted peanuts and fried onions to the cake to enhance the flavor. In addition to savory cakes, banh beo also has a sweet version that is almost exclusively available in Hoi An, Taste Atlas introduces.
Ranked 17th and 25th respectively are banh tet and banh chung.
