DNVN - The expansion of international flights brings a golden opportunity for tourism in Da Nang and the Central region in 2025. However, to make the most of this potential, careful preparation is needed. Only by improving service quality, infrastructure and effective tourist attraction strategies can Da Nang rise to become a leading destination in Asia.
Emirates Airlines to open Dubai – Bangkok – Da Nang route
Emirates Airlines is the largest airline in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the airline's request, the landing time in Da Nang is 21:50 and the take-off time is 23:55 local time. However, the 23:00 time slot has reached the parameter limit; previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also refused to grant this time slot to Air Macao (China) and Eastar Jet (Korea).
Partners from the Middle East market are interested in Da Nang's booth at the largest tourism fair in South Asia, SATTE 2025, which recently took place in India.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has requested Emirates Airlines to adjust its take-off time to 22:00. After discussions, the airline agreed to adjust its take-off time to 22:15 local time. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has now completed the slot allocation (parameters for coordinating take-off and landing times) and granted transportation rights to Emirates Airlines.
According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the opening of this flight route marks an important step in expanding Vietnam's air transport connections, facilitating the transport of passengers and goods between the central city of the Central region and Dubai - one of the largest and most modern cities in the UAE and the Middle East.
“Dubai is world-famous for its unique architecture, shopping and tourism, attracting a large number of tourists. The Dubai – Bangkok – Da Nang route not only brings tourists from the Middle East but also from all over the world connecting from famous destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok to Da Nang,” said Mr. Tran Tan Dien – Director of TADI Travel Company (Da Nang).
A boost for Qatar Airways to reopen Doha – Da Nang route
Notably, Mr. Tran Tan Dien, who started out as a tour guide before becoming a travel business owner with “more time on the plane than on the ground”, said that there is always fierce competition between the two leading airlines in the Middle East, Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways. Where there is one airline, there must be the other, and vice versa.
Therefore, Emirates Airlines opening the Dubai – Bangkok – Da Nang route will be a very important boost for Qatar Airways to reopen the Doha – Da Nang route. This route was originally launched by Qatar Airways on December 19, 2018. However, after a period of operation, due to the impact of COVID-19, the airline has temporarily suspended operations until now.
According to Mr. Tran Tan Dien, Qatar Airways representative in Vietnam is actively proposing that the airline reopen the Doha - Da Nang route, opening up opportunities to connect the Han River City with 150 destinations on all continents in the airline's flight network, especially for tourists from potential markets such as Western Europe and North America to Da Nang.
“The Dubai – Bangkok – Da Nang routes, expected to operate from the summer of 2025 and the Doha – Da Nang route, expected to reopen in the near future, will not only open a new door for Da Nang and the Central region to access the international market, but also create a new tourism trend with many opportunities to connect provinces and cities in the region with tourists from the United States, Europe, Africa and the Middle East!”, Mr. Tran Tan Dien emphasized.
Opportunities and challenges
Vice President of the Tourism Association, President of the Danang Hotel Association Nguyen Duc Quynh said that according to the plan, Vietnam Airlines will resume the Bangkok - Danang route from March 30, with a frequency of 4 flights/week; Myanmar Airways will open the Yangon - Danang route from April 2, with a frequency of 2 flights/week; Vietnam Airlines will open the Osaka - Danang route from July 3, with a frequency of 4 flights/week; Crystal Bay, Anex... will launch flights from Eastern Europe - Danang expected from March 30 to the end of October 2025...
“These are all potential markets with a large number of tourists and increasing travel demand. Expanding flight routes will not only help attract more tourists but also create favorable conditions for international investors and businesses to come to Da Nang. And not only Da Nang, this increase in air connectivity will bring great benefits to famous neighboring destinations,” said Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh.
According to him, strengthening connections with major markets such as the Middle East, Japan, Eastern Europe, etc. will create conditions for luxury tourism types such as high-end resorts, golf, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and health care) to grow. At the same time, it requires the Da Nang tourism industry to urgently improve service quality and infrastructure to meet the demand.
In particular, the increase in the number of international visitors requires hotels, resorts and accommodation facilities in Da Nang to be well prepared to meet the needs of tourists, investing in high-end amenities such as spas, swimming pools, and 5-star restaurants to serve high-end customers. Integrating smart technology into hotel services such as booking applications, online check-in, etc. is also very necessary.
“The expansion of international flights brings a golden opportunity for tourism in Da Nang and the Central region in 2025. However, to make the most of this potential, the tourism, hotel and service industries need to prepare carefully. Only by improving service quality, infrastructure and effective customer attraction strategies can Da Nang rise to become a leading destination in Asia,” Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh emphasized.
