On the afternoon of June 20, the Scientific Workshop "Management and development of the UNESCO-listed ancient capital heritage city - Theoretical awareness, institutional construction and local action" continued its discussion session with two contents "Institutional construction" and "Local action".
Speaking at the thematic session, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Training Association, member of the National Planning Advisory Group, gave some insights into heritage cities and heritage urban development associated with tourism. At the same time, he analyzed the current status of Ninh Binh heritage urban development associated with tourism and the issues raised.
From there, some suggestions for orientation and development solutions for Ninh Binh are proposed, such as changing urban planning thinking based on the basic principles of tourism development activities; focusing on functional tourism spaces, especially experiential spaces; focusing on applying technology, encouraging the use of alternative energy; focusing on community participation in tourism development as the subject of heritage.
Associate Professor, Dr. Do Tu Lan, Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, presented a paper on "Principles of planning for heritage urban development in the process of industrialization and modernization". It presented the positive and negative impacts of industrialization, modernization, urbanization and proposed some basic principles in the planning and development of Hoa Lu urban area in the future such as: unification but not dissolution, opposition but mutual development, organization of a unified chain... At the same time, Associate Professor, Dr. Do Tu Lan also presented the positive and negative impacts of industrialization, modernization, and urbanization.
With the presentation "Issues and challenges for preserving, promoting heritage, developing sustainable tourism in the process of expanding Ninh Binh urban area", Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research focused on analyzing the biggest limitations that Ninh Binh is facing: the economic efficiency of the tourism industry is not really convincing, has not attracted large investment sources, the infrastructure of tourist areas is not synchronous, tourism products are not diverse, there is a lack of close connection between tourism and other industries and fields, there is no strategy and risk management plan to respond promptly to natural disasters and other risks.
Some solutions proposed by Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan to develop sustainable tourism in the process of expanding Ninh Binh urban area are raising awareness of tourism, preserving and promoting heritage values and sustainable development; planning and managing the implementation of planning; applying natural solutions in infrastructure development; controlling the capacity of destinations.
At the workshop, a number of managers and researchers participated in a roundtable discussion to clarify the contents of local actions. The focus was on planning issues, applying green infrastructure models in urban development in the province, in addition to institutions, it is necessary to prepare human resources well, exploit the potential of cultural industries to serve tourism development, propose specific and appropriate mechanisms and regulations for Ninh Binh to promote its potential and strengths.
