Yesterday afternoon, June 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation returned to Hanoi, successfully concluding their trip to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) Dalian Pioneers Annual Meeting 2024 and work in China from June 24-27.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh speaks at a conference in Beijing on June 27.
Affirming Vietnam's role and position
Coming to Dalian, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation brought many important messages, not only at the WEF Conference but also in all meetings with partners. The highlight must certainly be the Prime Minister's special speech at the Opening Plenary Session, in front of about 1,700 guests from 80 countries. The Prime Minister shared Vietnam's inspiring story of Innovation, Integration and Development, which is recognized by the WEF as a model of a dynamic economy, a beacon of economic development and a growth engine of the region in the context of still having to deal with "headwinds". The Prime Minister also conveyed profound and clear messages about Vietnam's outstanding socio-economic achievements, policies, visions, and strategic development orientations, while also making profound comments about the world today and in the future, proposing to work together to build and strengthen trust, promote dialogue, and have a new approach and mindset for global cooperation.
True to the theme "New Growth Horizons", the Prime Minister emphasized the need to promote science and innovation to create new growth drivers through institutional and policy building; mobilizing resources and international cooperation while focusing on training human resources for the future.
Agreeing with the Prime Minister's message, senior researcher Cassey Lee at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute (Singapore) commented to Thanh Nien that ASEAN countries, including Vietnam, are paying much policy attention to new technology, human resource development, energy transition, and the 2024 Dalian WEF can energize to promote innovative efforts in economic cooperation among countries.
WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab expressed his respect for the Prime Minister personally and highly appreciated the role and position of Vietnam. Professor Schwab expressed his impression of the Prime Minister's messages and immediately sent an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend WEF Davos (Switzerland) in 2025. Not only that, this Conference also witnessed the interest of partners and businesses in Vietnam and the openness and deep sincerity of the Prime Minister. Many large corporations highly appreciated the prospects, investment and business environment and outstanding economic achievements of Vietnam, and at the same time wished to seek opportunities to expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam. Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son assessed that the atmosphere of the exchanges was very exciting and enthusiastic, promising many opportunities to expand and establish partnerships, investment and production in Vietnam.
From strategic orientation to effectiveness and reality
During the working trip, the Prime Minister also had a rich and meaningful bilateral program. The Prime Minister met with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, held talks with Premier Li Qiang, met with Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning, Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Guoqing, and received leaders of several large Chinese corporations and enterprises. The Prime Minister affirmed that developing a stable, sustainable, and long-term relationship with China is a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification. General Secretary and President Xi Jinping affirmed that China highly values and always considers relations with Vietnam a priority in its overall neighborly foreign policy.
It can be seen that the atmosphere of the working sessions with the Chinese side was very friendly and practical. When meeting with the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing, the Prime Minister shared that in this third visit to China since the visit last June, the Prime Minister clearly felt that the political trust between the two countries was higher and the results were better. The Prime Minister and the Chinese leaders agreed to deepen and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, building a "Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance". Thanks to such a common atmosphere and good development momentum, the issue of exchange and cooperation in many fields has become more vibrant, practical, extensive and comprehensive.
During this working trip, the Prime Minister made many practical and specific proposals to the Chinese side, including cooperation in building large, highly symbolic projects with substantial and sustainable efficiency, and welcomed China's increased high-quality investment in Vietnam. Emphasizing the importance of agricultural trade to the majority of people, consumers and businesses of the two countries, the Prime Minister asked China to facilitate the export of key Vietnamese products such as frozen durian, fresh coconut, rice, etc., and facilitate the export of Vietnamese goods to Central Asia and Europe via China, and suggested that the two sides promote local cooperation to become a new growth driver. The Chinese side responded very positively to these proposals.
