Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee directly responded to farmers' opinions and recommendations

On August 29, the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province organized a Dialogue Conference with farmers of Bac Lieu province, with the theme of Supporting farmers to develop production and business; promoting linkage and cooperation for sustainable agricultural and rural development.

At the conference, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu said that the dialogue conference is an important and democratic forum for representatives of cadres, members and farmers in the province to directly reflect their thoughts and aspirations to the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee on difficulties, problems and proposals and recommendations on mechanisms and policies related to agriculture - farmers - rural areas in the area.

This is also an opportunity to make a more comprehensive assessment of agriculture - farmers - rural areas in order to remove bottlenecks in the legal basis and the role of sectors and levels in the output of agriculture, forestry and fishery; origin of agricultural products and brands; development of processing and preservation industry; development of cooperatives, etc.

At the dialogue, farmer Tran Duc Quy (Long Dien Tay commune, Dong Hai district) said that local people mainly live by industrial shrimp farming, extensive shrimp farming, crab farming, and fish farming. However, currently, the prices of these aquatic products have decreased sharply, while the prices of feed, seeds, and aquatic medicine have not decreased, or have increased. Therefore, when farmers harvest, although there is a yield, they still do not make a profit, or even suffer losses. Mr. Tran Duc Quy requested the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to have specific solutions to stabilize prices.

Farmer Lam Quoc Vien (Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district) said that the average income of farmers is low, with over 90% of poor households living in rural areas, especially in ethnic minority areas. However, in reality, the support policies for farmers are still not many, especially capital and jobs. Mr. Vien suggested that the province have more practical solutions to help and support farmers to improve their lives.

Many other issues were also proposed by farmers, such as: solving jobs for rural workers; domestic water for people; investing in building domestic waste treatment plants to solve environmental pollution problems; incentive policies for farmers to convert aquaculture production to suit land conditions...

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province and leaders of relevant departments, branches and units directly responded to the opinions and recommendations of farmers. At the same time, the units were requested to base on their functions and tasks to proactively advise the Provincial People's Committee on solutions to effectively implement mechanisms and policies on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, meeting the needs, thoughts and aspirations of farmers. Focus on resolving proposals and recommendations within their authority to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles in developing agricultural production, building new rural areas; improve the quality and efficiency of production, promote the consumption of agricultural products associated with domestic and export value chains.
